Not like today when we have DVD's or we can point and click to get what we want anytime day or night.
Not that this is a bad thing it just was a different time. I can remember several nights struggling to stay up late to watch some of these movies, sometimes I made it, other times I didn't.
I totally get that Joe.

I grew up in the DC area, and discovered horror films thanks to a Saturday 11pm show called Creature Feature. Our local host Count Gore de Vol was a constant presence on the station, as Bozo the Clown in the mornings, and as Captain 20, introducing me to Japanimation and kaiju in the afternoons. This may sound silly or grandiose, but I swear that a big part of who I am today is thanks (or blame) to that man.

I got to meet him at a couple of recent local film festivals, and just the other day saw an excellent documentary of the horror host tradition, with the focus on him. It is Every Other Day is Halloween and I recommend it to anyone with a curiosity in the history of horror hosts.

Ugh. I think my Challenge viewing will be waning down in the next couple days. Too much shit to do.

My goal was to at least watch 3 yesterday and ended up only watching one. Hopefully I'll at least make a last ditch attempt to get the total up Friday.

Just used my last wild card. Am I to understand that Treehouse of Horrors would not necessitate one?

No, you will not need to burn a wildcard for treehouse of horrors...

Just a reminder that the original wildcard, It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, airs tonight on ABC, 8:00 Eastern.

Watch it from the most sincere pumpkin patch you can find!

Can't wait, although those Charlie Brown Rap commercials have been killing me.

You would have to use a wildcard on Treehouse of Horrors as long as you only watch the new one Sunday. If you watch another 3, you've got yourself an official entry with no wild card needed. That's if I'm understanding the updated rules correctly.

Wait, Treehouse of Horrors is a freebie? Where does it say that. Anyone got a link? Must have missed it. I remember the Great Pumpkin was that one year.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 6th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (Oct 1-31) P

I spent the past week on vacation in Vegas and the Grand Canyon, so my movie count is lagging behind--I'm at 82 right now, having just streamed Scarecrows on Netflix.

I've never been a fan of scarecrows as monsters, but seeing positive reviews of this movie from other folks on the board, I decided to check it out. I'm glad I did because this is one hella scary ride. These scarecrows aren't singing and dancing with Dorothy. The inserts of the scarecrows staring malevolently from their crosses reminds me of the menacing Weeping Angels from the Doctor Who episode "Blink".

Ok now I have checked everything off the checklist. Just 14.25 entries to go until 100!

From challenge rules:
"TV shows count according to length as they're aired on TV (including commercials):
30 minute shows = ¼ an entry
1 hour shows = ½ an entry
2 hour shows = 1 entry"

First of all, congrats to everyone in the 100 club.

I'm sitting at 91 myself right now, and hope to be joining the ranks before the challenge is up on Monday morning. I've had a few energy drinks to keep me going today and into tonight, and Saturday for the marathon I plan to as well, Sunday I will just stay up as late as I can, and watch whatever is on though I plan to include Creepshow sometime Sunday, and watch some of the Ghost Hunters Live Halloween episode.

I just used a wildcard watching 'Around the Country' which follows horror actor Shawn C Phillips on his move across country, stopping to film horror films along with way....

Now its time for Charlie Brown!

Just got home from seeing Paranormal Activity 2. It was really weird, because my wife and cousin and I were the only three people there. On the whole, I enjoyed it and thought they were very clever about the story they told but it definitely felt like a studio production. The actress that played Ali was quite impressive; I expect we'll see more of her in the coming years.

Now, It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown on TV as God intended.

Anyone who has seen Alice, Sweet Alice...what are your thoughts on it?

I absolutely loved the first half of the film (and some of the second). Also loved how crazy Paula E. Sheppard plays her character.

I just thought that the
Spoiler:
murderer/killer twist
in the second half completely is unnecessary and hurts the film.

Anyone else update their lists from their cellphones? My computer died tonight and now it's my only way of updating.

Watching "I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer"... horrible.

Agreed. I got the DVD really cheap at a Hollywood Video closing ($1 maybe) and knew that it was OOP so I could stand to make a profit if I didn't like it. I feel the same as you, and it really brought the whole thing down for me. Nothing I want to see again so I did make a small profit selling it (sold for about $10).

I finished my shopping for my costume today, I'm trying to find a wood bat to borrow from someone since I'm not dropping $30+ on one to use for one night (all aluminum when I play for fun during the spring summer w/ friends haha)

Or even bluray would be better. The monster (Di Nero) is the most hideous Frankenstein monster that I have ever seen in any Frankenstein movie.
It was originally released by Sony as a flipper with anamorphic WS on one side and FS on the other. Sony discontinued that version and put it back out with FS only as a single disk and in the 2 disk set along with "Bram Stoker's Dracula" which kept it's anamorphic WS presentation. To further confuse the issue both versions use the same UPC. Sony did this with quite a few films... It's also available on Blu-ray (amazon - DD).

I was lucky enough to find one of the original OOP flippers at Big Lots a few months back for $3.

This is my favorite filmed version of the book followed closely by "Terror of Frankenstein" and the 1931 "Frankenstein".
