I've managed to increase each year I've tried this and I hit 120 last year. So this year the goal is 121.
Can't wait!

Though I can't fault your eagerness. I'm ready to reserve a spot as well.

My wife and I have been looking forward to this. We've been putting together a list of films to kick it off.

of potential changes to the expanded list, for discussion, if you were interested in implementing any of these ideas.
DRG - I would just post your whole message in this thread. I totally agree with most of them, but I'm not a hardcore Horror fan like many here.

I agree with: suggested categories to add, the directors to add, "Based on a work by Stephen King" (really agree on that addition, removal of invisible man, category changes for video game and "living dead" titles and "return"/"revenge" titles.

Have no opinion on: Directed by Herschell Gordon Lewis or Uwe Boll or Ulli Lommel, change "attack of..." to "house of/on/by..."

Edit: caligulathegod had a good idea last year for the video game checklist item to also add "or had a video game based upon the movie."

Disagree on: removal of Criterion version of a film. You don't have to actually watch the Criterion release of the film, just a film that was released as a criterion disc. Halloween was released on laserdisc.

I'm all for the changing of actors/actresses/directors each year.

In spite of that faux pas on the part of TCM, I'm in! I may even watch "Hunchback", in spite of my reservations as to its' inclusion, as it's on their list and it's one of my all-time favorite films.
You'd be amazed at how many films TCM classifies as horror every year that clearly aren't. Right now they have the following labeled as such:

- The Time Machine
- From The Earth To The Moon
- Forbidden Planet
- Marooned

But in that particular instance I haven't seen either Hunchback version and just took their word for it.

How about a variation on the Drive-In Challenge? Obviously "safe lists" won't work, (since B-movie actors tended to work in B-movies almost exclusively, while "Horror" actors might only work in a handful of horror films-even if they were most famous for them) but how about a pool of actors and directors known for their horror work and allowing the participant to choose a predetermined number rather than make everyone specifically watch a Bela Lugosi movie?

Does anyone have recommendations for horror documentaries? I've already seen Going to Pieces, American Nightmare, Halloween: 25 Years of Terror and His Name was Jason.

The only one I can think of is Never Sleep Again.

Count me in. I just registered for the forum. I've been going to this site for a few years now. I don't know why I never signed up. Anyway, I followed the checklist and theme nights last year for my own amusement, and I had a really good time. Halloween is my favorite time of year, and I always try to cram as many horror movies in as possible. Let's do this!

Document of the Dead, is a 1985 documentary about George Romero and is available in the Dawn of the Dead Ultimate Edition, as well as a standalone DVD I believe.

Flesh and Blood: The Hammer Heritage of Horror, which is pretty good.

I'd also recommend these:
Horror Business- About independent horror filmmakers that's really entertaining. Has an appearance from American Movie's Mark Borchardt.
Going to Pieces: The Rise and Fall of the Slasher Film- A study of the sub-genre's history that's fun to watch. Be careful though as it shows the endings to quite a few of them if you haven't seen them before.

I also have Mario Bava:Maestro of the Macabre and Dario Argento: Eye for Horror but I haven't watched them yet. There's also Paura: Lucio Fulci Remembered but from what I understand it's less of a documentary but more of just hours and hours of sit down interviews without any extra footage.

It's funny. I've owned the Ultimate Edition of Dawn of the Dead since it came out and I never realized it had the Document of the Dead doc on it until about six months ago. It's got so much in there it must have gotten lost among the features listing when I read through it.

I can't think of any that haven't already been mentioned, but The Biography Channel is airing a new Halloween doc entitled "Halloween: The Inside Story" on 10/28:

http://www.joblo.com/arrow/index.php?id=23959

Naturally it would be a channel I don't receive.

And "Best Worst Movie" has to be worth checking out:

can't wait for this to start. I just this second remembered to check this particular forum to see if a thread had been started yet and very pleased and excited that it had.

Since the last challenge I've acquired a blu ray player so eager to use that, plus I've figured out how to hook up the laptop to the TV so Netflix is going to get some serious use.

CAN'T FREAKIN' WAIT!!

Nice! It's silly but last year one thing that helped me push past 100, besides bragging rights, was a chance at the Hanging Woman plum. It's enough to forgive the allowance for TV shows.

Figured I'd copy this over from the suggestion thread in case someone misses it

Most of my friends aren't into horror movies, and the few that are don't really want to do a double, or even a triple feature, much less an all day marathon.
Closest thing right now is if you have Xbox Live and Netflix. Send a friend request to DVDTalkHorror. If you ever want to do a movie party with Netflix, you can browse whoever is online and friends with DVDTalkHorror and then you can send them a request to watch something.

Post here or send me a PM if you send a friend request so I'll know to add you.

If you want, you can also post a date and time you're going to watch something and see who shows up.

So far I plan on doing:
The Tomb of Ligeia http://www.netflix.com/WiMovie/The-T...?trkid=1211018
Vampyr http://www.netflix.com/WiMovie/Vampy...?trkid=1211018
The Virgin Spring http://www.netflix.com/WiMovie/The-V...?trkid=1211018
Don't Look Now http://www.netflix.com/WiMovie/Don-t...?trkid=1211018
Sisters http://www.netflix.com/WiMovie/Siste...?trkid=1211018

Count me in. My personal goal is 31. One movie a day, though I might try for more. I'm retired now so I hope to get more movies in than before. Incidentally I couldn't wait and have already stared watching some horror movies for my own persoal amusement to get me revved up for the challenge.
