War of the Worlds (Widescreen Two-Disc Special Edition)
Is this thing going to be going out of print soon? It says it's "limited" but it's been a while already & there are a ton of used copies on-line. I'm not sure if I should dump my copy now (when I upgrade to Bluray) or hold on to it.

The original or the remake?

It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure the original wasn't widescreen.

http://www.amazon.com/War-Worlds-Wid...0717525&sr=1-7 Says there's only 2 copies left in stock on Amazon, but I'm not sure if that's relly it or not! |
Re: War of the Worlds (Widescreen Two-Disc Special Edition)
Apparently, Limited Edition didn't really mean a whole lot in this particular instance. I bought mine quite awhile ago and they're still available. Some sellers on Ebay are asking $30 for it, but I wouldn't think it would have that high a resale value, although I find it amazing that Amazon is still asking $27. I would think that whether you sell it when you buy it on BluRay has to be a personal choice, I'd hang on to mine, but then again I'm not planning to convert my collection to BluRay either. -kd5-

It's a limited edition in name only. This was a Dreamworks release, the same people that brought you the "limited edition" DVD of Saving Private Ryan that's been in print since 1999 or so.

Come to think of it, 2005 was a great year for behind-the-scenes/making-of content. In addition to this, I thought Batman Begins and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith were also both comprehensive and outstanding. That feature on Revenge of the Sith that shows what role each department played in the making of one minute of film was one of the best movie-making docs I've ever seen. |
Re: War of the Worlds (Widescreen Two-Disc Special Edition)
The remake isn't out of print, but the original 1953 movie is currently one of several Paramount DVDs that are OOP and getting scarce.

I have no intention of parting ways with my 2-disc version without having a Blu-ray Disc in hand that retains all of the bonus material.

But no trailers of the movie is on the special features. Very disappointed. :(
Just give me a good doc and I'm happy! |

Sorry for the super late response-- I'm back to considering whether or not I should upgrade this title to Blu-ray-- but doesn't the Blu-ray release contain all the same bonus materials from the 2-disc "Limited Edition?"
