THE WIZARD OF OZ dvds???

Hello Friends!!

I'm looking to finally purchase THE WIZARD OF OZ on dvd (not blu-ray). I wanted the 3-Disc Collector's Edition which came out in 2005, but I guess it's now out-of-print. Dammit!!

What's the deal with this 70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition which came out last year? Amazon says it's 5 discs. What r these 5 discs? Does this set have ALL OF THE EXTRAS from the 3-Disc Collector's Edition? Can anyone confirm this? Also, how do the transfers compare? I tried looking for some reviews on this set online, but couldn't find any.

The problem with this 70th Anniversary Edition is that it comes with stuff that I don't want (like posters and such). I hate spending the xtra money for this stuff. I really wanted that 3-Disc set. Please help, guys. Thanx.

Which would be silly, since Amazon is selling it for $12.99.

If the OP doesn't want to go the online route, the two-disc 70th anniversary edition is available at Target for about $20.

Ah... but you forget about shipping costs at the Amazon Marketplace...

$12.99 is the price from Amazon, not the Amazon Marketplace, and it's eligible for free shipping if the order tops $25, and no sales tax.

"Which would be silly," because for the roughly $15 I suggested, he could have the version he wants-- brand new-- from the Amazon Marketplace...

In fairness, if Mr. Salty just orders Oz, there will be shipping charges. (Unless, of course, he has prime.) But, I think we're all getting a little too nit-picky on this point. :)

Original poster:

If you want the 2005 three-disc edition, I would say take the advice above and buy it from a third party seller. You can get it very reasonably, brand new and factory sealed if you like, and it's a great set.

Alternatively, if you don't mind spending a little more, do a search for "Wizard of Oz four-disc Emerald Edition." This contains all of the material from the new big box set but without all the booklets and printed material--seems to be just what you are looking for. All the extras from the 2005 set should be on there, plus more besides that were added for the 2009 release.

Just make sure you find the FOUR-DISC Emerald Edition. There is also a three-disc Emerald Edition but that is the Blu-ray version. The four-disc is the DVD. I don't think you can go wrong with whichever version you decide to get. They are all very fine releases.

I checked Amazon and I don't see a 4-Disc Emerald Set on dvd. At Deepdiscount there is a 3-Disc Collector's Edition which came out last year going for about 30 bucks. When I click on it the product description says 4 discs??? U'll have to send me the link. Thanx.

The capitalization of the subject line pains me.

Maybe it's a mistake, or perhaps not all retailers are carrying the 4-disc Emerald. But chuckydj's link leads to the correct set. If you don't want to buy it from amazon, maybe you could verify with whomever you want to get it from that they do have it before purchasing.

I sometimes wish that I had limited mod powers, just to go around fixing stuff like that. And suspending the guilty parties.
