Godfather III (ya pretty much have to...)
Indiana Jones III (part of OT, not bad either)
Batman Returns (whaaaat? Awesome movie!)
I am fearful that I will be forced to buy Alien III and IV again (or whatever they're called), in order to get the first two on Blu. Sure wish I'd waited and eschewed Quadrilogy, as they were released individually later on.

That was the kind of response I was looking for with this thread. Thank you.

And while I never buy anything I don't want to watch, it would not surprise me if I never get around to a few hundred. But I'm pretty sure I've watched everything I've double-dipped on.
Back to the OP: While I would never purposely buy a movie I don't like twice, I do see circumstances where it could happen. Think these reasons have been mentioned, but:
Blind buys: Many of us buy things blind, some even almost exclusively. One example for me, is Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train. Never seen it, but it was one of the first DVDs I bought 10 or so years ago. Never got around to watching it until the better edition came out. Sure, it was somewhat risky spending the $5 to buy the new edition, but based on my love of other Hitchcock films and the high praise it receives, I was pretty sure I'd love it and I wanted the 2-disc SE. I also almost bought a Hitchcock boxset or two, so it could have been possible to own 3 or more versions of it and then finding that I hated it.
Some of this risk depends on cost/income too. For people who pay $10-30 for DVDs, blind buys are riskier. But those that average ~$3 a film are more willing to take plunges on films we may end up disliking.
Sets: It's often cheapest to buy films in multi-film sets, even if you already own one or two of the films. I own dozens of double-dips this way, possibly even some triple or quadruple dips if you count those huge 50 film horror collections. Many of those are unwatched, so I guess I could own several copies of a film I end up hating.
Collecting: Some people 'collect' movies, wanting every film of a franchise, or a studio. I do this, but not to the extent where I must buy every version of a release, and thereby end up with double dips. I did buy several versions of a few films for exclusive collecting reasons, but I always trade or give away the film part of the package, keeping just the 'exclusive' parts.

Whoa, wait, you don't like Last Crusade OR Batman Returns??
I've bought a few movies I don't like mainly to complete a series of movies, I am a completist.
I've bought Halloween III & Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers just to complete the series, but I hate both of those movies.
I own Beyond Re-Animator but that movie sucks, however that was a blind buy.

I try not to Double Dip on things I can't stand. I have re-bought a few that I had on VHS such as Alien Resurrection and I am planning on getting the 4 pack that includes Police Academy 7 which I didn't care for.

The Big Red One
I wouldn't say I can't stand it, but it's not as good as I thought it would be.
I bought the Cannes remastered version at the same time because it was $4.99.
I guess I wanted to know what I would be missing from the original theatrical version. 47 minutes of additional footage

While you and I may not want to collect them, it's no more silly than collecting coins one never plans to spend, or stamps one never plans to mail, or baseball cards or whatever. I'm sure there are things about all of us that another would call wasting money and think 'sad'.

I did the same with VERSUS. I bought some bootleg dvd and I didn't like the film. Then I bought the Special Edition of VERSUS a couple years later, hopefully thinking that I would maybe like it after some time passed, and I didn't. I'm definitely not gonna get the blu-ray of this film.

Come on now. It's even more pathetic and sad to attack someone else.

I love the comic book THE SPIRIT, but I certainly would buy the blu-ray for 6 bucks used (it is for sale at my store)

yous guys are just jealous. i know, because i am
fyi - no saracasm intended. im slightly compulsive and i admit it. i dont have 6 covers of ghost rider, but i have several. i dont like the movie either. but to my admittedly weak-sauce defense, its called "collecting". does it make sense? to me it does sometimes

Exactly. Collecting DVDs for different covers or whatever is no different from any other sort of collecting pretty much.
Attacking Xage (or his actions) is no different from attacking the billions or people over the centuries who collect dolls, stamps, toys, etc. Sure, some people don't understand collecting and never do it, but it's a very common part of humanity, and making disparaging comments about it is rude.
