Re: Criterion releases for September 2010

For those of you interested in such things, this is a very eye opening interview conducted with Nick Nolte slightly before the NY/LA opening of TTRL:

I had not seen this interview until recently. But, having read the article in GQ or whatever back in December of 1998, in anticipation of the films release, I think it's safe to say Malick made the film he wanted to make. He shot a ton of film, which we all know, but did so with the intention of finding the film in editing room, so to speak.

I've often wondered what the film looked like when it was shown in early December '98. And what edits took place between then and the final release version from Christmas day '98.

We'll probably never know that but it will be very nice to see some "outtakes".

when criterion started releasing blu ray, they came in digi packs. But everyone complained, so they stopped. Unless it's a boxset, all crit blu's come in clear plastic cases now.

Has there been any indication that Criterion Collection might release Weekend, Godard's 1967 film?

I ask because DVD Aficionado lists a Criterion Collection edition of Godard's Weekend "not announced" with spine # to be determine. I can understand this being wild speculatio but DVD Aficionado has similar listings for Cronos and Antichrist which are seem to have merit to strong rumors (if not yet officially verified) to be pending Criterion Collection release. This would save me from springing over $50 on amazon for the old release (ya right).

Thanks, excellent news!

Re: Criterion releases for September 2010

I own TTRL (DTS) but I imagine Criterion will match that and surpass the picture quality/extras, so I'll but it. On another note does anyone have any 411 on The Game from Criterion? I read somewhere that they were going to release it? I love that movie.

I'm not completely sold the cover looking like an open book, but I love the choice of covers.

Yeah, that's pretty bizarre looking. I've never seen the movie, does it have anything to do with the movie at all or is it just a strange design choice?

The film is based upon a novel of the same name, which is perhaps why that rather random turning-page design is superimposed across the cover. I'm not feeling it.

It's also, uh, you know...a thin, red line.
