Re: New Round of Criterion OOP Announcements
Fuck Studio Canal and fuck Lionsgate!
|
Re: New Round of Criterion OOP Announcements
Agreed. I don't see Lionsgate releasing half of these SC titles considering the state of the market.
|
Re: New Round of Criterion OOP Announcements
Here we go again. Let the scramble begin!

Re: New Round of Criterion OOP Announcements
Guys, if you're not all that compelled to watch extra features, I'd snap up the 10 Years of Rialto boxset while you can -- as nearly HALF of the discontinued Criterions over the past year are available in it.
|
Re: New Round of Criterion OOP Announcements
Thanks for the heads up. I've been holding off on buying The Man Who Fell to Earth.
|
Re: New Round of Criterion OOP Announcements
For those who don't have any of the Bunuels, the R2 Optimum box set includes all of the Studio Canal titles and may be your best option:
CET OBSCUR OBJET DU DESIR, DISCREET CHARM OF THE BOURGEOISIE, DIARY OF A CHAMBERMAID, PHANTOM OF LIBERTY, MILKY WAY, TRISTANA, LA JOVEN and BELLE DE JOUR. |
Re: New Round of Criterion OOP Announcements
Grr. Not again...

Re: New Round of Criterion OOP Announcements
I have all the ones I want, I have no clue why people always go nuts as soon as these announcements are made, these movies have all been available for a long time, as soon as something goes OOP all of a sudden everyone wants to get it.

Re: New Round of Criterion OOP Announcements
None of these look particularly interesting besides Phantom of Liberty, I'll probably get that.

Definitely sucks!
I have a copy Touchez pas au grisbi and is a great gangster flick. Grab it. |
Re: New Round of Criterion OOP Announcements
How do I not have "A Woman Is a Woman"?

Re: New Round of Criterion OOP Announcements
Jean-Pierre Melville fans that don't have a copy of Bob le flambeur... I would grab it now.
Personally, the meh in this thread without mention of that title is a bit... :( |
Re: New Round of Criterion OOP Announcements
Grab these 2 masterpieces by the master Buñuel while you can :
The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie & That Obscure Object of Desire |

I for one, have held up buying several of the DVDs waiting for a good deal at Amazon, B&N or some other place. When titles go OOP, people are willing to buy it at a higher than normal price and those with not enough cash flow, like me, are fucked because we can't get films we like.
I agree with the reply. Also, I plan on getting the films or they are on my wishlist and I'll buy them as I can. Then when they become OOP there is a scramble to get them. So it's not so much that people want in just because it's OOP, but because it may not be available any longer and they wanted in before it went OOP. |

Re: New Round of Criterion OOP Announcements
These are the remaining Studio Canal titles in the Collection. If any of them are on your wish-list, you might want to make buying them a priority during the B & N sale:

Re: New Round of Criterion OOP Announcements
Just like last time, I ordered the only BD (The Man Who Fell to Earth) going OOP. Reading the description of the film, it sounds like something right up my alley.

Re: New Round of Criterion OOP Announcements
Sorry, there were a few errors in my above listing of remaining Studio Canal titles. Here they are:
Army of Shadows Big Deal on Madonna Street Le cercle rouge Le duolos La haine Hopscotch Last Year at Marienbad (Also Blu-ray) Made in USA The Proud Valley (From Paul Robeson box) |

Thus, when - completely unexpectedly - five titles you have long coveted but put off buying for various reasons and financial realities are announced to be going out of print in 2 weeks and you know the history of values increasing dramatically once they are gone from stores, it creates a sensation of anxiety and haste for consumers to rush to buy the films they want to own - for if they don't now, they may not get to later. It's really not that difficult a concept all around, but I understand that your comment has less to do with any actual lack of understanding than it does a need to post smug self-satisfied snark like this to feel better about your superiority. |
