Re: Latest word on Kill Bill The Whole Bloody Affair?

The ball is in Tarantino's court because wants to do stuff like have a new anime sequence commissioned. It's not like the theatrical "Grindhouse" that's completed and sitting there waiting to be released.

As such you're not just going to hear that this thing is coming out via a product listing on Amazon.com or even from a press release, there will actually be rumblings that people are actually working on it, and so far nothing has happened aside from Quentin Tarantino talking about what he'd like to do in interviews.

The situation with The Weinstein Company isn't helping either but I have to believe that if Tarantino wanted to get the ball rolling it would be a top priority for TWC regardless of their financial problems, and it shouldn't cost THAT much money to produce a short animated segment and slightly re-edit two completed films into one.

Re: Latest word on Kill Bill The Whole Bloody Affair?

the thing that bugs me is the current dvds/bds are practically bare bones. i'd be happy with the theatrical versions and some elaborate extras. quentin spent all this time making these 2 movies, and they are 2 of the most awesome movie ever, and we get almost nothing.

it's funny that quentin is friends with edgar wright, eli roth and robert rodriguez, all 3 of whom go all-out on the extras for their movies, but quentin doesn't (usually).

With his editor dead, Tarantino probably doesn't want to touch it again without her.

The longer this takes, the less I want this. He's getting too far removed creatively from the film to do it any justice. It sort of like Brian Wilson finally doing Smile. Yes, it's nice to have but it doesn't feel creatively legit after so long. Obviously Tarantino doesn't feel the passion for this project or it would have materialized by now. I'm content to accept Kill Bill in its current form.

From what I gather, the whole bloody affair was already edited years ago. Wasn't there a screening of this 3 or 4 years ago?

It's my understanding that if you combined the two R2 DVDs, cut the cliffhanger reveal at the end of V.1, the credits, and the opening with the Bride in the car from V. 2, you have The Whole Bloody Affair.

That's more or less what was shown a few years ago at one of the film festivals but it was incomplete (for example, the titles for the first half still said "Vol. 1" and as I said before, Tarantino has confirmed that he'd like to do additional animation for the anime sequence.

Ultimately they probably could have rushed something out several years ago but the longer we wait the more likely it is that the combined cut will have significant differences from the theatrical volumes. Basically Tarantino is really going to have to up the ante to generate interest in this thing at this point.

Is this thread going to get closed like the other one, since there's no new info yet it keeps getting bumped with pretty much the same info that got posted way back in the other one?

Been waiting so long, I've stopped caring. I still refuse to buy the current discs on principle, though. Odd.

I gave up and picked up both cheap used.

The whole bloody affair won't see the light of day until Kill Bill vol 3 is made.

Thats my prediction.

But when it was shown at Cannes back in 2004 there was no talk of additional footage. The full version has since played in Austin in 2006 and L.A. in 2010. Who cares if it still says vol. 1? It's in small type anyway, easy to ignore. I only wish there were more publications that reviewed the full version. Empire reviewed it at Cannes and praised it through the roof, after having reservations about the individual volumes.

The main selling point of TWBA is that there is additional footage that had to be trimmed or cut in order to get an R rating. Not everyone owns the R2 DVDs, heck not everyone is even aware that there's an uncut version of the film. But for those of us who do have the R2 DVDs, yes it is possible to see the uncut version of Kill Bill. Just cut off Vol. 1 after the Bride's speech to Sofie Fatale ("They'll all soon be as dead...) and start vol. 2 by skipping directly to Chapter 2.

They do need to release TWBA, because as a whole this movie is a masterpiece. It's far and away the best film of Quentin Tarantino's career and is in serious need of re-appraisal. Especially in light of the recent passing's of David Carradine and Sally Menke.

The Playlist has some good elaboration on at least one major change, although the full extent is still very much "who knows?" http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplayli...y_premiere_in/

I really want to go to LA for this and to see an old friend, but I don't think I can justify the cost unless I get a new job within the next two weeks.

Guns N' Roses Axl Rose released "Chinese Democracy."

If Harlan Ellison manages to get "The Last Dangerous Visions" finished in the next eighteen months, I will believe that there just might be something to that December 21, 2012 thing...

Okay, now the 5th "A Song of Ice and Fire" book has a set July 12th release date.

I'm really starting to believe the "End Times are near" theory...
