Re: Catalog of DVD Cataloging Software

I see what you're saying, work confused me. If you get it back to how you originally had it, then go to View, Columns, Choose Columns. Do Add Field Set(button). Then you can uncheck Release Year and check Movie Release Year and check/uncheck whatever else you want. To change the order, you can just drag and drop them. When you're done, save your Field Set. When you get back to the main screen, go to View, Columns and pick the one you just created.

Hoping I understand you better now and this is what you wanted.

Unfortunately, I still don't think it's working the way I am hoping it would. Maybe this example picture will help:

See on the left panel where it says "No Folders", well on mine I have 2 folders set up one for Blu-rays and the other for DVDs. All I want to see is the movie title and the year the movie was originally released here just like this example does. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out. It's just getting really frustrating to figure out something that should be this simple. If I want this then can I not have the edition release year available on the right panel then? If so, then I guess I've figured it all out.

Do you have it on Classic?

Re: Catalog of DVD Cataloging Software

Change it to anything other than Classic. That will put the year next to the title.

Nope, same thing happening. If I remove the ability to show the "edition release year" then "Django" will come up as (1966) in the left panel as opposed to (2010) which is the year the Blu-ray came out. Is it not allowed to have both if I want the original movie release year in the left panel with the movie title?

Re: Catalog of DVD Cataloging Software

Just to be clear, you want the panel on the left to have the title and the year that the DVD/Blu-ray/etc came out, which looks to be what they are doing in the example? If so, I've spent about the last 20 minutes trying to get it with no luck. I tried messing with the columns on the right to see if that changes anything but I haven't found a solution. I can add and remove different years and it wasn't changing anything on the left.

The only other option I can think of is to give their forum a shot http://www.collectorz.com/phpbb2/viewforum.php?f=3

I have to take off now otherwise I'd still poke it with a stick, which I can do tomorrow after work if needed.

Thanks for all your help! On the left column I want to see the movie title and the year the movie originally came out. For example, I'd want to see:

"Back to the Future" (1985)

Not "Back to the Future" (2010). I don't want to see the year the movie was released on Blu-ray in the left column. I'll keep messing with it but if you have any suggestions tomorrow, I'd appreciate them. Thanks again for all your time and help!

Re: Catalog of DVD Cataloging Software

I knew I couldn't stay away, even though I can't offer much more help. I wonder if it's a Mac/PC difference/bug. When I change it from Classic to any other layout, I can only get the movie release year and it just automatically shows up in the other layouts and I'm on a PC.

The iOS version of DVDProfiler just had it's first price drop; now $4.99 in the appstore.

And after a week or so at regular price, it's back on sale.

Don't know if anyone's mentioned this, but DVD Aficionado has become Film Aficionado (filmaf.com).

Re: Catalog of DVD Cataloging Software

I currently have a Google Docs Spreadsheet to share a list of my movies with friends and family. Other than that, I don't keep track any other way. I've thought about buying a license for DVDProfiler but it would take me too long to enter all 10,000+ of my collection, don't really need it anyways.

Re: Catalog of DVD Cataloging Software

Anyone here use DVDProfiler and the iOS version?

I decided to start using my iOS version but the initial set-up decision is confusing me. It looks like I have a one-time choice to have my app work with the PC version (which I don't own the full version of, and therefore probably can't use the export to excel and other features), or to work with their online version (which only works on their servers and doesn't allow any type of exporting or printing if i read correctly).

[QUOTE=kd5;10191907]XI is a 30 day trial.

looks promising, but here again, it has no online functionality (beyond importing movie data

agree with that

Re: Catalog of DVD Cataloging Software

Movie Collectorz somewhat recently gives you online functionality, called Connect, for free with their software. IMO, They have some really nice search filters. http://connect.collectorz.com/

There is a limitation. You have to use the software to add/remove/make any other changes to the movies. So you basically do your cataloging in the software and then you can do an upload, which keeps things in sync.

You can also download from the site to your software. This is useful if you have the apple app and do changes to your collection on it, and then upload to the site. Then if you're back at your computer, you can get those changes synced up between the computer and website.

Great list, Gatherer! It would be even nicer if we had a list of pros/cons for each software.

Re: Catalog of DVD Cataloging Software

I use to have a neat cataloging system (may be DVD Spot or something like that. I really liked it. Now I'm searching for another that I can put the price paid, place of purchase and date of purchase. Hopefuily it will list stars, release date, time, etc.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Flicker, Many of the ones listed here can do that. I personally use Collectorz.

Re: Catalog of DVD Cataloging Software

Started using DVD Profiler.
I love that I can batch scan DVD's barcodes and add them that way.

Worked out well and can now share my collection with my family.

I tried the free trial version of Collectorsz by putting in 12 titles form my collection as a test but now can't find them. I'm thinking too complicated for an internet dummy like me.

Re: Catalog of DVD Cataloging Software

I may try DVD Profiller but how much?

I found out I can do a trial run (up to fifty) titles at no charge, but I selected four (shows only three) so it's no better than the other. I might be doing something wrong.

Re: Catalog of DVD Cataloging Software

Does the same way. Surely there must be a different way to keep track of your titles.
