City Hunter with original english dub?
The title may be a bit confusing, so let me clarify what I mean: I grew up in Europe where (it seems) we had access to many Jackie Chan films before they were widely available in North America. I was always amazed that when I came over for University that incredibly old jackie chan films were being released as 'new' in Canada... and often with a different dub/soundtrack than what I had heard previously.
Take, for example, Police Story 2. Somewhere along the way it was redubbed with Jackie Chan's real voice (a poor choice, if there ever was one.. he speaks poorly and sounds his current age, whereas everyone else in the film sounds normal) and the music was changed to something that matched First Strike.
City Hunter has a slightly similar history, though I think Jackie never dubbed it himself. THe dvd I got off of Netflix had a 5.1 English dub that was markedly different than what I have on my vhs version.. the dialogue is different, the actors are different and the delivery has changed.
Not everyone will agree with me, but I prefer the OLD dubs of Jackie Chan's films.. Drunken Master, Young Master, Dragon Lord, Police Story (1, 2 3) Dragons Forever etc. Does anyone know if they sell good quality versions of these dvds anywhere with the original dubs? I remember picking up Drunken Master out of a walmart bargain bin 7 years ago with the right dub, but poor picture quality.
Worst case scenario, I was hoping to purchase the new(ish) City Hunter release and then back it up onto my hard drive where I would swap out the 5.1 for my vhs audio (I need to figure that part out) and make a custom dvd. I don't know if the FBI will break down my door or not, though......
