Re: Official Wrestling DVD Discussion Thread - Volume XIII

On the Greatest Superstars of the 21st Century Blu-ray, is the commentary volume on the bonus matches way lower than the music and crowd volume for anyone else, to the point of it being hard to hear a lot of the time?

WWE has been doing a lot of this lately with their DVD sets, where they are constantly pumping in more crowd noises to their events and it's getting beyond cumbersome and frustrating to say the least. One can barely hear the commentary.

Re: Official Wrestling DVD Discussion Thread - Volume XIII

Only a few more days til the long awaited Orton release. I personally wish WWE would do more DVD's like this Orton set, like they used to do in the past. Where it's a wrestlers first dvd, where they do a Documentary on disc one, then put matches on disc 2 & 3. Or if they haven't been around that long, then do the doc and matches on disc 2 and no disc 3. The Mysterio dvd I haven't even opened up yet, I'd have much rather gotten a 2 disc John Morrison, or a 3 disc CM Punk dvd, or a 3 disc Christian dvd, or a 2 disc Sheamus DVD...you get the picture. Hopefully they'll stop with these generic subject/list dvds and get back to the superstars individually.

Same here.

Was watching some previews and the documentary looks really good.

Definitely picking up the blu-ray first thing in the morning.

My wife loves Orton, so this is the first set that we'll actually be able to sit down and watch together. I'm pretty psyched about that. And like you said, the documentary does look pretty solid.

I've watched the Orton documentary and can tell you that is very good doc. Stories about his AWOL and substance abuse were well done and I'd go as far to say that this one of the best wrestler docs that they have produced.

The documentary itself runs around 90 minutes.

Re: Official Wrestling DVD Discussion Thread - Volume XIII

Am I the only one that doesn't watch previews? I don't want to spoil the dvd when it comes out, and would rather watch it in full as intended then get snippets or highlights of the best parts. I'm thinking it's just me but I could be wrong.

It's justa curiosity item to see if it's worth buying it in the long run...definitely a buy for me, along with the Orton DVD set.

Re: Official Wrestling DVD Discussion Thread - Volume XIII

My latest haul. Got them for $11 each, so I think it's a good deal.

Spoiler:

I still don't know if I should get the Orton Blu-Ray. I am interested in the part about his substance abuse, but man do I hate him.

I must admit I'm an Orton hater but was very surprised by how good documentary was. If you've got a spare bit of cash and you see it cheap pick it up.

If Netflix or Blockbuster has it avauilable for rent, you can try it that way to determine whether to buy it or not. Just got the standard DVD myself today at Best Buy.

If you are a Orton hater, shouldn't you NOT be buying the Randy Orton DVD?

In theory yes, but I'm a DVD collector so... you see my conundrum...

I'm not really a fan of the non-wrestling era of Divas but I have those DVDs as well...

Man, I feel like WWE is running out of topics with this one. I have zero excitement for this dvd set. The rivalry has been told over and over in other dvds. I don't wanna see the Montreal screwjob again for the Nth time, and the iron man match is already on Shawn's dvds.

I agree but I am still getting the Blu-Ray because I want to see it in high quality, if it was only avaiable on DVD, I would not be interested either since I have all of Shawn Michael's DVDs and Bret Hart's DVDs

Re: Official Wrestling DVD Discussion Thread - Volume XIII

I myself am really looking forward to watching the interview, it looks like they get very in depth. Not only that, it will be the first time seeing them side by side talking trash about each other since they "made up" on Raw.

The matches themselves won't really be any higher quality. They'll be pillar boxed to present in 4:3 aspect ratio and while there may be a tiny increase in quality over the regular DVD, imo it's not really noticeable, especially if you have an upconverting DVD player. The interview portions, however, will look much better on the Blu set.

Re: Official Wrestling DVD Discussion Thread - Volume XIII

For ROH fans, a new Davey Richards 2 disc dvd is released on ROH's website:

“The American Wolf” Davey Richards has come to define what Ring of Honor Wrestling is all about. With his hard-hitting strikes, unparalleled submission grappling, and warrior’s ferocity, Richards has grown into a complete athelete in the years since his debut in ROH. Witness the evolution of “The American Wolf” from his first battle inside the ROH ring in 2006, his battles against the likes of Bryan Danielson, Roderick Strong, KENTA, & more, plus Richards’ epic clashes for the ROH World Title aginst Austin Aries & Tyler Black. Davey Richards is heart, Davey Richards is dedication, Davey Richards is “The American Wolf”….

Disc 1:
1. Davey Richards vs. Jimmy Rave…Destiny 6/3/06 (ROH debut)
2. Davey Richards vs. Jack Evans…Glory By Honor V Night 2…9/16/06
3. Davey Richards vs. Naomichi Marufuji…Final Battle 2007…12/30/07
4. Davey Richards & Rocky Romero vs. Bryan Danielson & Austin Aries (Final Fall- World Tag Team Title Ultimate Endurance)…Without Remorse 1/26/08
5. Davey Richards vs. Kota Ibushi…Bedlam In Beantown 4/11/08
6. Davey Richards vs. KENTA…Supercard of Honor IV 4/3/09
7. Davey Richards vs. Kevin Steen (Anything Goes Match)…Never Say Die 5/8/09
8. Davey Richards & Chris Hero vs. Kevin Steen & Lance Storm…Death Before Dishonor VII Night 1 7/24/09
9. Davey Richards vs. Claudio Castagnoli…Final Countdown Tour: Dayton 9/18/09
10. Davey Richards vs. Bryan Danielson…Final Countdown Tour: Boston 9/25/09

Disc 2:
11. Davey Richards vs. Austin Aries…Aries Vs. Richards…11/13/09
12. Davey Richards vs. El Generico…8th Anniversary Show…2/13/10
13. Davey Richards vs. Kenny Omega…Epic Encounter III 3/20/10
14. Davey Richards vs. Kenny King…The Big Bang! 4/3/10
15. Davey Richards vs. Roderick Strong…Bitter Friends, Stiffer Enemies 2 4/24/10
16. Davey Richards vs. Tyler Black…Death Before Dishonor VIII 6/19/10

http://www.rohstore.com/index.php?di...product_id=563
Amazing match listing...for people new to ROH, this is a great way getting into it, showcasing one of their top talent.

I already have all matches except 1 (Bedlam in Beantown), will probably pick this up during a good % off sale. Nice way of having his matches in one set rather than popping in 16 DVDs.

Re: Official Wrestling DVD Discussion Thread - Volume XIII

I like the idea of ROH coming out with more "best of" discs. They did quite a few early on and they were all solid.

I'm sure the next time they have a decent % off sale, I'll grab it. Their sales have been pretty lousy of late though. I used to place at least one order a month. Now, I'm only putting in an order every 6-8 weeks. If even.

I agree, it seems like they've been having more sales on trying to get rid of their old dvd stock...even the current one is a $5, $6, $7, $8, $9 based on the year.

The labor day sale was also lackluster since it was only 25% which was like a normal sale before Sinclair broadcasting bought ROH.

The last time i bought from them was during the 4th of July sale.

Re: Official Wrestling DVD Discussion Thread - Volume XIII

Exactly! There were a lot of 35% and even 40% off sales before Sinclair took over. The last time I bought anything from them was a Buy 3, Get 1 Free sale back at the beginning of August. It looks as if that sale might be the one to keep an eye out for now.
