DVD Discs in Ziplock bags?!?!

The other day at work a co-worker was returning a DVD I had lent her. She forgot to put the disc back in the case so the next day she brings my disc back in a Ziplock sandwich bag! I said that may ruin the disc and she said that when her mom would borrow lost dvds she would return them to her in Ziplock bags and the discs worked fine. I haven't tested the disc out yet but it looks pretty scratched up! Anyone else know people that do this to dvds?

Yes, people who don't respect others property. Your first mistake was lending someone a DVD. Hope she's hot...

If I ever was cheap enough not to rent a movie for $1 from Redbox and the like, I wouldn't have the audacity to return a disc in a zip-lock bag.

Most people don't care as long as the disc plays they could care less about if the disc looks pristine or what kind of packaging it comes in. If you are a collector and you care about these things you can't lend your stuff out and expect it back in that same shape.

Yep two rules, one I never lend out nay expensive discs. two if i do and you bring it back messed up or the case is missing inserts, your buying me a new one, and you've lost the privilege. Blu-Rays don't go anywhere.

I have to agree 100% i will never lend a disc to anyone, not even family. I know I should feel like a selfish SOB for being that way, but the last time I lent a disc was to family (the first Gladiator release on DVD), it came back with scratches all over it, but at least I got my case back!!

People have stopped asking to borrow my DVDs because I drive them crazy until they bring it back. But come on, does it really take three months to watch one movie?

Yea. I love when people lend out DVDs and they complain when they get them back scratched. If you are going to lend them out then you just have to suck it up when you get them back scratched. I never let anyone touch my DVDs. And even with "scratch resistant" Blu-rays I still am the only one who touches mine. Even my wife knows to never touch my DVDs. If you care about your DVDs then just don't lend them out.

Soft plastic isn't going to unless there's rocks and stuff inside of it. Your disc was scratched earlier.

When I have to send out a stack of discs, say 25 or more, with no cases, I've put them in sandwich bags and taped it into a nice tight bundle that isn't going to shift around.

I have one friend I lend movies to and thats because he treats them the same way I do. Other than that nobody gets them.

Same here. Me and one of my best friends share movies, comics, and games, but hes the only one. Unless its a female who is giving me special attention.

It still amazes me how ignorant some people are about how delicate DVDs are.

When the disc comes out it goes right back into the case, holding the disc on the edges only. Yet when you rent a disc, you swear people constantly touch the underside of the disc and spin it across their living room table.

I work in the duplication business and time and again we'll record someone's beloved home movies onto DVD from VHS and they'll bring it back complaining it skips and pixellates. Flip it over and sure enough, scratches and fingerprints all over it.

I don't think the ziploc bags did any harm, and are actually better than some other alternatives they could have used, such as nothing or a burlap sack. The scratching probably came from somewhere else.

I sometimes get discs that are so bad, I fear to put them in the PS3!

Is this a serious thread? I've loaned many DVDs to friends and family and never had a problem. I've also bought many previously viewed DVDs from Hollywood Video/Blockbuster. Granted some are badly beaten up, they all have played without any issues.

Agreed. I'd rather have them put forth the effort to throw it in a plastic bag than to have a loose disc floating around in their possession.
