FOX 75th Anniversary DVDs and Limited Edition Posters

Posters look sweet!

In honor of the 75th anniversary of Twentieth Century Fox, the studio is releasing double features of many of its classic films on Blu-ray & DVD -- and offering free limited edition posters when you purchase these 75th Anniversary editions.

I don't like packages of unrelated films as I can't alphabetize properly on my shelves.

For boxsets like this, where the individual films are in standard cases, I just organize them individually and ignore the fact that they came in a boxset.

Re: FOX 75th Anniversary DVDs and Limited Edition Posters

I'm definitely digging Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and Walk the Line. I'd order Butch if I bought something that entitled me to a poster. When I visited the Fox online store to look at the participating titles, I don't see any Blu-rays. I just don't see me double-dipping from DVD to DVD or adding entirely new titles to our library in DVD just to get the poster, though.

[Jedi mind trick]Fox, you will make Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid Blu-ray stand-alone a participating title. You will also issue a manufacturer's coupon for this.[/Jedi mind trick]

Oh, if they're just thrown in a general box like that, then that's different. I thought it was more akin to the Midnite Movies approach.

Re: FOX 75th Anniversary DVDs and Limited Edition Posters

I want to see all their early Technicolor movies released in a box set:

RAMONA (1936)
WINGS OF THE MORNING (1937)
KENTUCKY (1938)
DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK (1939)
HOLLYWOOD CAVALCADE (1939)
JESSE JAMES (1939)
THE LITTLE PRINCESS (1939)
THE BLUE BIRD (1940)
MARYLAND (1940)
THE RETURN OF FRANK JAMES (1940)
+ a bunch of musicals

Although I imagine some of these were released in other box sets (e.g. Shirley Temple, John Ford, Westerns, etc.)

How large are the posters? I'm really diggin' the Alien & DTESS ones but if they are small I'd have no interest.

Poster of The Day The Earth Stood Still is awesome.

Also does anyone know if The Abyss in the Alien/Aliens pack is the Director's Cut?

The only existing film disc is a non-anamorphic DVD with both the theatrical and DC on it, as far as I know. It won't have the making-of documentary, though.

I like these posters, but what exactly possessed them to choose Walk the Line or Ice Age? The assembled box sets are awful, too.

You'd think they'd have made more posters. I bet they wouldn't have had any trouble doing 75 different variations. Die Hard? Star Wars? Fargo? Fight Club? Donnie Darko? French Connection? Young Frankenstein? The Simpsons? The X-Files?

Re: FOX 75th Anniversary DVDs and Limited Edition Posters

I just got one of the Limited Edition posters today. It came more quickly than I expected (in about 2 weeks after the order although they said it would come in about 3-4).

At first I was impressed by the packaging: it came in a giant UPS shipping box suitable for holding a rolled poster and not just folded up in a regular mailing envelope. Unfortunately, a gorilla must have handled it before it got into the box, as it was dented in the middle and was pretty badly creased too. Beyond that though, I thought it was a nice and attractive poster. I picked the Alien one. Size was approx. 27" x 40.5", so decent if not full-sized.

I may get another but watch out: that free poster isn't free with shipping (which was at least $4.95, IIRC).

Fox 75th Anniversary 'Classic Quad' Sets

These have been available in Canada for about a month now. Took me ages to find them on Canadian retailer sites tonight because of the odd name for the series. Looks like they're coming out in the U.S. in May, priced a bit higher than they are here (at least for pre-order). Most of the groupings seem to be along genre lines, with less of the odd combos seen in the double- and triple-features (which are mentioned in a separate thread here involving the poster deal). Packaging in stores here doesn't reveal whether these have the extra features available on many of the single-disc releases, but one can hope.

Here's what seems to be available at Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...ad+set&x=0&y=0
(sets 1 and 3 have the same sleeve pictured; can't remember what the "missing" set contains, but I know I've seen it around here)

In case anyone's interested . . .

I didn't look real closely, but I think I saw some of these sets at Wal-mart for 14.99 and at Target for 9.99.

Re: FOX 75th Anniversary DVDs and Limited Edition Posters

Looks like Fox has added two more "Classic Quad" sets to the catalog, to be released June 1:

Release #11:
The Blue Max
The Desert Fox
Immortal Sergeant
Sink The Bismarck

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003INBNX4/

Release #12:
The Desert Rats
Twelve O'Clock High
Von Ryan's Express
The Young Lions

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003INBNXE/

If you click the link in my previous post, you'll see the entire collection EXCEPT Quad Set 10, which seems to be a mystery at this point, even at Fox's own's site:

Re: FOX 75th Anniversary DVDs and Limited Edition Posters

Up to fifteen "Quads" now at Amazon (three more coming Aug. 3). And they've finally renamed many (but not all) of the listings to "20th Century Fox Studio Classics" and have included the titles in the headings.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...ad+set&x=0&y=0

Quad #13
ON THE AVENUE
PIN-UP GIRL
SOMETHING FOR THE BOYS
YOU'RE IN THE NAVY NOW

Quad #14
DESK SET
HOLLYWOOD CAVALCADE
HOW TO STEAL A MILLION
I WAS A MALE WAR BRIDE

Quad #15
MOVE OVER, DARLING
O. HENRY'S FULL HOUSE
ON THE RIVIERA
RALLY ROUND THE FLAG, BOYS

Still no clue about that elusive Quad #10.

My only regret about these sets is that they didn't repurpose the brilliant old posters that graced many of the single-disc versions of these titles.

I think I saw a bunch of these at Target for $14.99, and bought a couple. I'll check when I get home.

Costco has been releasing a few of these sets as "triples" instead of quads.
They are not numbered as the quads are but they do have the same poster offer. They were $9.99 each.

I bought two of them before I was aware of the quads:

- Award Winning | Drama
- Anna Karenina
- A Farewell to Arms
- Les Miserables

- Award Winning | Musical (perhaps this one is 3/4 the missing Quad #10)
- All That Jazz
- Carmen Jones
- Hello, Dolly
