WB and The Blind Side...SD screwed Again!

Again WB Studios has decided that special features were only good enough for BD owners and SD owners get screwed over, where as with Lions Gate they were smart enough to give the SD edition of Brothers the same special features as the BD. It just really reallly pisses me off to no end! :(

I will be pissed if Cop Out gets the same treatment, given how Kev usually goes all out for special features

$_$

Side note: I thought it was mildly amusing that in Sundays new ad BestBuy will be taking advantage of the rental delay and advertising The Blind Side "Don't wait to rent. Buy it Tuesday."

I think we can all expect WB to piss off and screw over the people from now on. They've been the worst so far.

If you're watching SD, you're screwing yourself.

Yes you can rent it at blockbuster. In fact, we are advertising that you can rent it at blockbuster for the first month.

And would you like to buy those with less money than you a new TV and Blu-Ray player?

Whatever...actually i've been pissed on how many Blu's I have that are missing special features from the SD release. It all depends on how you look at it. Times they are a changing and in the long run both SD and BD owners will get screwed as companies care less and less about physical releases.

This is exactly how it should work. BD is a premium product, for discriminating collectors and lovers of cinema. SD is for Joe Six Pack.

Funny you should call someone Joe Sixpack living where you do, do.

Blue Underground is another company that seems to be heading in the direction of screwing SD owners.

Hell, this is nothing. I thought this was going to be about how Warner has completely screwed up the SD transfer of the film. Now that is screwing people over, and something they're not above doing on a regular basis as evidenced by their previous cock-ups.

I have blu-ray through the PS3 and still buy SD DVDs because i have no interest in blu-ray one bit. SD DVDs still look good enough to me on both televisions in my home.

The BD is a combo, so you'd have both a DVD and BD and wouldn't lose out.

I mean really, I no you are just egging them on, but I mean really, Blu-Ray is here to stay people, stop blowing money every week on new DVDs & upgrade already. If you are buying new releases period, you clearly are not broke and have money to waste.

My thoughts exactly....Warner has been doing this for quite awhile now (months, if not more than a full year already), so it should no longer come as a surprise to anyone....

Maybe someone can just create a "one and only bitching about Warner new releases lacking special features on DVD" thread so a separate new one doesn't have to pop up every single time they release a film.....

I have absolutely zero reasons to switch to Blu-Ray! I have a collection of over 2700 dvd's,150 or so that are Criterions that I paid good money for,125 music dvds,1200 tv dvd's and an excellent Panasonic Vierra EDTV with 720 dpi and my dvd's look fantastic upconverted on it. I don't need 1080 dpi! I will NEVER switch formats at this point in my collecting. It just pisses me off that the majority of us collecting dvd's are SD buyers and the studios now punish us because of that when before BD we used to get some great SE DVD's with great bonus features and now we get screwed over!!!

I could care less about watching The Blind Side in HD; the only thing I care about, should I choose to watch the movie at all, is whether the SD transfer is up to par and not suspiciously crappy as Warner has pulled in the past with a few notable releases.

Yes, Blu-ray is for discriminating collectors and lovers of cinema but the studios are trying to push the product to Joe Six Pack which, after almost five years, hasn't really caught fire.

If you're a big Blu-ray collector you'll have to hope Joe Six Pack types start signing up for Blu-ray or you'll only see a limited amount of library titles available and likely you won't see any price reductions in the future either due to a lower volume of sales.

SD supporters are not the only ones getting screwed over. Even Warners' Blus do not boast as much supplemental material as the nicely stacked 2-discers of old. Currently, WB is more interest in selling their existing product, rather than creating additional materials to compliment it.

Here's the breakdown of what is omitted from the SD release;
  • Michael Oher Exclusive
  • Sidelines: Conversations On The Blind Side
  • Acting Coaches: Behind The Blind Side
  • the Story Of Big Quinton
Hardly anything to get too worked up over, and I would doubt that the running time of these combined totals more than 45 minutes. You'll probably find them on YouTube, if they are not there already. Honestly, looking at this list, it seems that BluRay is getting the shaft, since they are paying the premium, and are greeted with only 4 featurettes. Doubtful that the BluRay will drop to the $10 price point as fast as other past SD WB releases (Terminator Salvation, The Hangover, Harry Potter) Didn't they drop within 6 weeks of release, if not sooner?

So the WB Archives must be screwing over the Blu-Ray owners then...

rotflOh man, that is good stuff. You do know that your 2700 DVDs do not explode once you by a Blu-Ray player don't you?

No, they play just fine but why waste your money buying a player if you have no interest in the functionality? There are people out there who are asking themselves that question and deciding not to bother.
