Do you have a favorites shelf?

And if you do, what titles are on it? I do, and here is what I have on it so far. Remember these are personal favorites, movies I can watch over and over and never get bored with, so they aren't all masterpieces of cinema (few if any of them actually are). Anyway...

Almost Famous
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
Boogie Nights
Chasing Amy
Clerks II
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
I Love You, Man
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Ready to Rumble
Role Models
Wet Hot American Summer

Yeah, my liquor shelf and everything I put on it is my favorite.

I have a lot of good shelves and I'm pretty sure the shelf of SCTV seasons 1-4, The Big Lebowski bowling ball case edition, and The Kids on the Hall seasons 1-5 is a pretty nice shelf.

I try to put my dvds in catogories.

Nope. I put my DVDs on shelves by genres (more or less).

Same.

Like most others, alphabetical (mostly). If I can't remember my favorites by title, they should probably drop off the list.

I do separate TV from movies and I have a few special category sections like Criterion and James Bond and Anime and foreign language (I had foreign films integrated with other movies but had to rearrange to make space).

Mine are all alphabetical. With 3300 or so, I can't imagine trying to categorize everything. Besides, I like surprises when choosing a movie to watch, so if I think I want a drama, but a comedy catches my eye, it is like a bonus.

Categories of sorts. All the Criterions go together for sure.

No, everything is alphabetical

Alphabetical here too, but I like the OP's idea, and it would be cool to see what titles others isolate from their collections.

Favorite Stand, as opposed to a shelf. All things i like in a way that is more than just as a friend.

Eternal sunshine
before sunrise/sunset
All seasons of Ronnie Mars
concert stuff: Iggy live at ave B, motorhead, cramps at napa State, Ramones, Maiden, Leo cohen, Sarah McLachlan, Clash, nirvana unplugged
Always but not Forever
Crow
Rodger Dodger
Office (UK version)
Spirited Away
Casablanca
Chasing Amy
Taken
Buffy (all seasons)
Galactica (almost all seasons)
Some Filipino martial arts and Muay thai stuff

That is about the best i can recall off the top of my pointy head.

No favorites shelf, but an interesting idea. Unfortunately it would probably be impossible deciding where to make the cut. My 10 favorite titles would become 20 and eventually turn into 50 and so on...

Re: Do you have a favorites shelf?

Pretty much all alphabetical.

Everything won't fit on my main shelfing though, so I do have a couple bookcases with specific shelves. One for all my Disney's, one for Adult Swim, one for Star Trek/Star Wars, etc. They aren't my favorites necessarily, just easy enough to separate out from the mass.

This.

Though I do - for some odd reason - have certain titles (current favorites or the odd box set) facing outward on their respective shelf, like they're extra special.

No favorites shelf. Everything is categorized somewhat, and alphabetized in that category. Plus everything is easily accessible, so its like the entire collection is on a Favorites Shelf.

My collection is mostly alphabetical, but I have a few shelves that have just ended up like Trevor's here just because (like I have all 40 of the Star Trek TOS single disc releases, plus some of the other series and movies, and I've managed to collect quite a few Doctor Who DVDs, so they mostly have their own shelf).

But otherwise I have five tall bookshelves: one for anime, one for animated (with kid's stuff like Thomas the Tank Engine) and three for everything else, and each is alphabetized within it's grouping.

Most of my single titles are alphabetical, but I'll keep stuff like the Bond titles together and all my old snapper discs together.

Your signature suggests you do have a Favorites Shelf. ;)

I used to have a favorites shelf, but that was several hundred titles ago. Now, it's all alphabetized from Accepted to Zoolander. As I recall, my Favorites Shelf used to include:

The Bridge on the River Kwai
Doctor Zhivago
Glory
Lawrence of Arabia
Tombstone
The Transformers: The Movie

At the time that I had things categorized, I had a few favorite directors shelves, too (Tim Burton and Steven Spielberg are the only two I can think of right now), and I would have had a David Lean shelf had the three films of his in my library not been on my Favorites Shelf. It's much easier having everything alphabetized!

I have a Cronenberg shelf. Otherwise, everything else is alphabetical, with Music discs and box sets separated.

The Cronenberg shelf is by year. (Still need Shivers..)

Re: Do you have a favorites shelf?

Uggh, due to my constantly growing collection and the limit space that comes from being a University student my collection tends to be all over the place. In the summer I hope to get a fairly large sized bookcase that will allow me to keep my collection in one place rather then a shelf of 20 here, shelf of 20 over there, etc.

When I do that then I will not have one, will go alphabetically. Although it may be a good idea if your collection is large, my collection is only a bit over 200.

I put everything on the shelf alphabetically but I consider everything on the shelfs to be favorites

Re: Do you have a favorites shelf?

Everything on mine is alphabetical, movies then seasons. I thought about putting all the Batman films together, Rambo, Die Hard and Bond movies but not sure about that yet.
