They also charge much more than commission than others. Not saying Amazon is a bad option, but your reasoning there is wrong.

I have a ton of DVDs I was looking to unload as well, I did some trade at FYE and thought about Amazon and ebay. In the end, I just bought a ton of dual blu cases and now stick the DVD in the case with my Blus. I wasn't getting enough on trade in to justify selling and after looking at amazon prices, it just seemed like too much hassle for too little money.

Moviestop, 4 for 1 reserve, 10% directors club card.

These helped me start my blu-ray collection fast, as I was converting DVD to Blu. I still have a ton of dvds though. I know a lot of Asian Martial Arts movies wont make it anytime soon.

Where'd you get the Blu cases?

As for the idea that trading isn't worth the hassle, that of course is an "eye of the beholder" judgment. Personally, I figure if I'm considering parting ways with something, then I don't really want/need to keep it. What I paid for it originally is irrelevant at that point.

Sure, I'd like to get as much out of it as I can but I also know that values drop over the years. If you really want to maximize your sell-price, you should monitor secondary market prices and sell the moment something happens to drive up the going price. A title going OOP helps.

To me, that is entirely too much hassle, and I realize I'm forsaking that maximum sale when I instead settle for a couple of bucks. As others have wisely noted, it's crazy to view DVD's as investments.

If one is looking for investments one is better off buying a painting by Van Gogh or Picasso etc.

I'm sure the market for DVDs has only increased over the last four years. Hopefully he held out for that big pawn shop pay day.

He's probably trying to unload his Blu-ray now too since streaming is the real future and "you got to keep with the times".
