Re: The Simpsons - The Complete 20th Season

I'd prefer Season 13-19 and then Season 20, but that's just me. I'll pick this up on DVD because it looks like it will match the regular packaging. Can't justify getting it in Blu and just having a lone Simpsons Season sitting on the Blu-ray shelf.

Re: The Simpsons - The Complete 20th Season

looks like the case may be pretty cool.

why are they releasing this now though? i mean, is there something special about the 20th season that warrants it being released right now? having not watched the show in a while, did they do a lot in the 20th season to "celebrate" the milestone?

Re: The Simpsons - The Complete 20th Season

I think that since it's the first HD season, they wanted to get it out (specifically the BluRay release) sooner rather than later.

Season 20th is the first to be made in HD? What about the previous seasons?

Amazon has also season one coming soon on blue ray

No episodes from earlier seasons were produced in HD. They didn't start that until the LABF production line which began airing in February of this year midway through season 20.

That Amazon listing for season 1 on Blu-Ray means exactly nothing.

Well, seeing how this is the first animated series to hit 20 seasons is pretty special to me.

Well, if they release both the current seasons along with previous seasons on DVD, they'll get caught up sooner, at least...

We need the others on DVD first! I still need to catch up, the last one I got was Season 8.

That's my guess as well. It wouldn't make sense to stop releasing the older seasons.

Good god that's expensive. I'll wait for the price to drop down to $20 or less on sale like they all end up doing.

$49.98 is the MSRP of all Seasons of The Simpsons when they first come out; in fact, all the Sets are either MSRP of $39.98 or $49.98 right now. That being said, it will probably be available release day for about $28.99 - $34.99, depending on the time it is released and any sales. Might be worth holding off for a better sale because it doesn't look like there is going to be any limited numbers of special packaging for this one.

I've always held off for sales, even a year after a season is released and never managed to have any trouble finding the special head packaging. I have more trouble finding the regular box which I'd rather have and the last season is the first one where I could actually find it instead of the heads.

Maybe as a bonus they'll have the nude Marge spread from Playboy.

I've found just the opposite actually. The one I had the most trouble with was the Bart Head. I didn't get it within the first month it was released and had a very difficult time tracking it down afterward. I usually end up getting both the head (release week) and the regular packaging (on sale at a later date) though.

Re: The Simpsons - The Complete 20th Season

There is absolutely no chance that Fox won't put out the rest of the older seasons.

The Simpsons is far and away one of the most successful TV series on DVD. Season 12 is going to end up selling numbers that most studios only wish that their FIRST seasons would achieve. Simpsons DVDs are like printing money.

This is strictly to get Blu-Ray SKUs out there. As people have posted, they will likely now do 2 releases a year - an older DVD and a newer season on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Re: The Simpsons - The Complete 20th Season

Anyone notice the "Tracy Ullman Show" Simpsons on the spine? Perhaps those shorts will be included on the set. I believe Matt Groening said they would eventually come out on a official dvd

I saw that too but just chalked it up to celebrating the anniversary. This was likely a day one purchase for me anyway because it's The Simpsons, but if the Tracy Ullman Shorts are included in this set then I will absolutely get it on the first day.

This.

My money is on two seasons a year now that the show is broadcast in HD - one "retro", one current. An older season in the summer, the previous season in the winter.. of course this may change, but they did two seasons a year before and it worked fine. They got the most important seasons out already, so this is a good decision.

Day 1 purchase. Last season was really well written.

Re: The Simpsons - The Complete 20th Season

I could see this not being released until after January 14th so it could include Morgan Spurlock's "The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special - In 3-D! On Ice!"
