DVD Talk's Top 20 DVDs

DVD Talks has just released its list of top 20 DVDs. I'd link to it, but apparently a link to DVD Talk is a URL to another site, and it won't let me =) Easy enough to find, I'm sure.

Any disagreements? They're not all DVDs I'd buy or watch, but it seems a pretty good list.

And some of my best DVDs of the year will be DVDs that I bought in 2009 but were released much earlier ... the omission for me is probably Snow White - which DVD Talk's reviewer gave a "Collector's Series" rating.

Which is a kind of interesting point - only two releases on the list of best DVDs got DVD Talk's highest rating. High standards at DVD Talk (not that I'm complaining)

Perhaps you're just referring to DVDs and excluding Blu-rays, but all together there's more just two. In fact, all three of the Blu-ray titles I reviewed this year that made the list received DVD Talk Collector Status: Rome: The Complete Collection, Raging Bull, and Star Trek The Original Series.

The list has Kobayashi's The Human Condition, so I'm good.

Up was a good blu-ray, but it isn't good enough to get on the top. the picture was good and all, but i think its just because on the four disc in a one set (and its low price.)

I'm a little disappointed with Trek's spot, too.

I kept scrolling down the list, not seeing Gone with the Wind, until I was certain it would be number one. And it's not anywhere on the list!

Star Trek (09) at #1? Really? :hscratch:

If you didn't see your top discs on the list it's because you forgot to send us any money.

I agree with the sentiment that this list is disappointing, but a list is just a list. We all come up with our own. And this one happens to be what DVD Talk reviewers feel are the best overall, apparently - who are we to say they can't put them on a list such as this and in the spots chosen?

I will say, however, that I am very surprised Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series Blu-ray set ranks #8 with titles such as a season of the Office ranking ahead of it. That's very interesting to say the least.

Quite right. I thought I'd clicked through on all of them =) Not even close.

But it still seems low. The Watchmen 5-disc Ultimate Edition (third best) received a "recommended".

I actually am really happy that TOS on BD got up there (dunno about Trek 2009). Even if you don't like TOS...man you gotta admit that this set was a set done right. Both cuts of the show (original AND new special effects) set up with the angle option (how many DVDs/BDs actually use this?) so that you can rotate between the two live to compare them...if you want.

Most companies seem to like to put either only one version of their stuff out (Lucas) or like to sell the different versions in different SKUs...so to see everything in one set is great. The only complaint I would have is that the packaging is very low key compared to the original TOS packaging.

Sometimes managing those big cases can be annoying but the booklets and the "book binding" disc case were both fantastic. I do miss those.

Looks like I have my finger on the pulse here, for once:

BSG was number one on my personal list, at least.

That was number two on my personal list.

It didn't make my list at all.

Well, the DVD may have been a bit light but the Blu-ray (which is the only edition DVDTalk has for review) was excellent. #1.......I don't know about that. #1 should've been Wizard of Oz 70th Anniversary for sure.
