As for the Dragon Dynasty titles on dvdaf: these were never announced, just talked about.

What's the story behind Rituals? I just read the Rue Morgue where they talk about the movie, but did not know it was canceled
-hard boiled was released by Dragon Dynasty on 07/24/07.

-the killer will be released on 03/30/2010.

I know Hard Boiled was released, but the original Disney release was canceled.

Re: Announced but never seen.

When WB originally mentioned that they were doing a Poltergeist SE, it was stated that it would be a 2-Disc set. When it did come out, while it did have a remastered picture, it also only had a featurette on ghosts that didn't have anything to to with the movie itself.

Splendor in the Grass was also announced as a SE, only to be released sans extras.

Re: Announced but never seen.

I remember a South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut special edition being announced, maybe in 2004-2005.

I think it was the Spike Jonez director's series DVD of videos that included an ad for an Adaptation special edition.

This is not the Code Red release, but a previous public domain issuance. I own it and it's criminally bad quality (as bad as the old VHS).
According to this forum, the latest word on Rituals is, variously, that Code Red has gone out of business, or that C.R. had secured a last-minute Holbrook interview. Don't know which is true.

Agree with this. I don't care about barebones, for it's the movie that matters most, but for a DVD-R I'd want best available quality, a more reasonable price ($10-$12; $15 max.), and shipping that doesn't equate to unconscionable gouging.

Two additional titles whose apparent loss I'm mourning are Angst, the brilliant German serial killer pic, and Mosquito Der Schaender. The former was announced more than five years ago by Barrel Entertainment, but I think that outfit is now extinct. And Mosquito, I don't know what's going on, but it is also long overdue.

Re: Announced but never seen.

Once upon a time, I read that Warren Beatty was working on a Dick Tracy VISTA Series release. Then the year in which it was supposed to have been released came and went with nary an offering, and shortly thereafter the legal battle over the rights to the property emerged. I'm still greatly disappointed that, to date, this only exists as a barebones DVD.

Re: Announced but never seen.

Didn't WB say that all the Popeye theatrical animated were going to be released then they sorta mentioned that the made-for-tv Popeyes(60s) weren't among them?

I'd love a Blu-ray disc of Dick Tracy.

This still makes me mad. I really wanted and still do want a nice special edition of Poltergeist. Instead I've bought that "25th anniversary edition" twice (once on regular DVD and then again on BD)

Sorry, Wrong Number was announced and Wings was rumored for Paramount's discontinued Centennial Collection series.

Re: Announced but never seen.

Paramount announced "Body and Soul", "The Dark Mirror", Fritz Lang's "Secret Beyond the Door", and Ophuls' "Letter from an Unknown Woman" and then canceled them a while later.

Now this I specifically remember because it was mentioned right after the bare bones release was announced but before it came out. I specifically held off of buying that since it's one of my favorite movies when I was a kid, and actually still don't have it.

That movie screams of special edition... I mean it took way too long to get a bare bones as it was.

Re: Announced but never seen.

1492: Conquest of Paradise was announced by Paramount in 2004 for release on DVD (release date: 11/16/2004 - catalogue #:097363274247). It never was released onto DVD and got cancelled.

Bugsy Malone was announced for release onto DVD (release date: 4/11/2006 - catalogue #097360889840). Just like the title above, cancelled and never released onto DVD.

Both films announced, preorders taken, and just cancelled like that with no explanation or reason given at all.

That was a hoax.

Some titles I remember are a special edition of the Waterboy, a special edition of Cocktail, the Kevin Bacon basketball film The Air Up There, Cocktail Molotov, which was supposed to be released by Criterion, the cult classic Joystick, The Kremlin Letter, Saturday the 14th and The Marvel Superheroes '66 Collection.

Didnt Sony announced THE COMIC, ENTER LAUGHING and NIGHTWING as part of their Martini Movie line, only to never come out?

This question has probably been asked before, but has any reason ever been given as to why this isn't on DVD yet?

No reason was given, just never released. In 2 years it will mark the films 20th anniversary, if it's not released onto DVD/Blu-ray at that point or whatever, whoever has the rights to distribute the film in North America on DVD/Blu-ray, they are clearly missing out.
