Re: Buyer's Remorse

My spending habits have certainly changed over the past couple of years and with the addition of Netflix to Xbox I buy even less. I definitely streamline my blu-ray purchases.

I do find myself buying and enjoying foreign films more than I do domestic releases.

This past November i also learned that i should probably just wait until Thanksgiving week to buy dvd's through Amazon. I abused their sales so much that week.

Because of this, I will only purchase 'best of/compilation' sets of programs containing the 'best' episodes (for example, South Park-The Hits: Volume 1 or The X-Files Mythology Collection: Vol.1). If these don't exist, then I will buy JUST ONE season or volume of a show that I personally consider as my favorite (for example, Miami Vice: Season Two).

I think there's a new thread in this idea. I'm gonna check first to see if one exists in the TV forum, but how about specifying your ten favorite individual seasons? Could be a bit interesting, and certainly involving more thought than the generic, "Top Ten Favorite TV Shows" list threads.

^ Sounds good. I'd have to think hard about this though.

As much as I love movies, I have reached a point I don't need to see repeated viewings of most movies. I have a core selections of movies I love, and want to keep psychical copies on dvd (or blu-ray)
Example: Inglorious Basterds - Saw it in the theater, loved it, wouldn't mind owning it - but can wait a little while to see it again - it's not killing me to wait - I have other things to do in life. Other films like Cloverfield or District 9 - I can wait a year till HBO on demand.

My DVD collection may be about 600 titles - but for me, I wouldn't sell off anyone.

As for collection becoming dead because of streaming, we'll, it just may ramp up.

Buying dvds in a store like Best Buy will never go away.. You may say "never say never' but the fact is that studios need retailers to display their movies in public - to raise awareness - to be bought as gifts - to make available to an 'under-tech-savvy' segment of the population who would not subscribe to downloading services. ( that's not meant to be an insult to anyone, i hope you get the idea. )

What's happening now is that older, less popular films are not being released on DVD anymore and will only be available via download. But you'll always find the latest Batman/comic book movie on the shelves with a 'collectable' toy in the box.

Try finding 'Funeral in Berlin' (Michael Caine; 1966) which is totally OOP now and going for nearing 100.00 on Amazon.com

'The Parallax View' I passed over in the Wal-Mart 5 dollar bin - now it sales for 25.00 on Amazon.com resellers. - Thats my buying regret!

The only time I can think of was when I didn't read reviews of Quantum Leap & bought them not knowing about the music changes. I immediately sold them on ebay. Now I read reviews first.
