Re: Whats the most money you've spent on one VHS,laserdisc,DVD or Blu-ray?

$199.99 + Tax for the Trigun boxset (without ever seeing an episode).

Worst buy I ever made - watched about 3-4 episodes and absolutely hated it. Ended up selling it a week later for a big loss.

Next one would be the korean R3 Oldboy limited edition copper case - $140 for the copper set + $30 for the R3 2-disc limited edition that it also holds (I'm a collector, I needed both!).

Re: Whats the most money you've spent on one VHS,laserdisc,DVD or Blu-ray?

I know I spent close to 100 on the original Elite edition LD of "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and 125 on the Criterion LD of "Se7en". With dvd i know I spent close to 80 on the boxset of the Godfather films, if your talking single disc, i know a paid the 40 bucks for a few Criterion releases, Silence of the Lambs and Robocop. And I cannot remember for sure but i think the AB tin releases of Hellraiser, Maniac, and Evil dead 2 were close to 50.
And here in a month or two back I plan on getting the Complete series of G.I. Joe and Transformers which i know both are over 100.

I feel for you man. I was lucky enough to have Netflixed that shit show. I think I made it about 7 or 8 episodes before I gave up on it.

Re: Whats the most money you've spent on one VHS,laserdisc,DVD or Blu-ray?

Laserdisc box sets were pricey with my favorites being The Day the Earth Stood Still, which included an autograph by Robert Wise. I also really liked the Thunderball box as well as Alien and Aliens.
DVD, I know my then future wife spent a good buck or two on the Universal Studios Classic Monster Collection for me as a xmas gift. She also bought me the Japanese Alien Head. Out of my own pocket would be the Grindhouse set from Japan and The Green Slime from the same place.
Blu-ray would probably be the three Godzilla movies I just bought in November off of HMV, Godzilla VS.Biollante, Godzilla VS King Ghidrah and Godzilla (1985).

Re: Whats the most money you've spent on one VHS,laserdisc,DVD or Blu-ray?

For a movie: When it was released I paid almost $25 for the Transformers 2-disc edition. The Iron Man 2-disc from Target came in a close second. I usually don't spend over $14 for a new movie.

For a TV set: Land of the Giants - Giant Collection $120.72. Xena set came in close second and are probably the only sets that I've spent over $100 on.

I think it was $159.99 for the Best Buy Exclusive Refrigerator set for "Seinfeld: The Complete Series." I never thought they'd still be around, and it pisses me off that they've been available for $99.99 multiple times since.

Re: Whats the most money you've spent on one VHS,laserdisc,DVD or Blu-ray?

Not counting box sets I paid $40 for Silence of the Lambs Criterion Collection when it was still available at stores. I also paid $30 for the Ed Wood Special Edition after it was recalled before that particular store took it of the shelf. I know I've probably spent more on something else, but nothing is coming to mind right now.

As for box sets I spent about $110 for the Full House Complete Series and I think $90 for the Star Wars Definitive Edition LD off of eBay before the theatrical cuts were available.

I believe I paid $69.99 on release day for the Scarface Deluxe Gift Set. For a single movie, $39.99 for Robocop CC. These days I won't pay anywhere near that much for a single movie.

Re: Whats the most money you've spent on one VHS,laserdisc,DVD or Blu-ray?

The worst wastes of money for me so far have been
The Terminator 2 Special Edition Laserdisc set $125 (never got around to watching it)
The Star Wars Trilogy Laserdisc Boxset $250 (I expected this to have Criterion worthy extras for the money and they turned out to be pitiful and sparse)
Dark Angel Season 1 pilot and the first 1/2 of the first season box set- Japanese import $210 (this was before TV shows on DVD became ubiquitous in the US and I had just bought a region free player and had never had a chance to see the show- so it seemed like a pricey but worthwhile splurge. In less than a year the entire first season was released stateside and available for around $50. The show wasn't very good either.)

Re: Whats the most money you've spent on one VHS,laserdisc,DVD or Blu-ray?

I think I spent about $100+ on ebay for the Elite Re-Animator

back in 2000 when it was OOP and Elite or Anchor Bay hadn't yet released any of their newer versions yet.

It's long gone in a purge to FYE for a few bucks.

I'm surprised there's no one here admitting to buying any OOP stuff on ebay.

I know i've sold plenty of big $$ titles, so I guess those people don't read this forum.

Re: Whats the most money you've spent on one VHS,laserdisc,DVD or Blu-ray?

Just over $400 CDN—including shipping and currency exchange—for a Japanese import deluxe edition laserdisc of GAMERA 2: ADVENT OF LEGION (four-disc set) circa late 1996. It wouldn't become available on DVD for many years, so remained a crown jewel for a while. When I sold off all my LDs and the player (many at a profit), this one remained behind, partly as a relic of the era and partly because I wasn't about to give anyone the bargain of a lifetime on it, even though it had retained significant value before the DVDs came out.

Re: Whats the most money you've spent on one VHS,laserdisc,DVD or Blu-ray?

I am guessing that one of the earlier sets of Star Trek NG seasons or Smallville Season sets, each may have been in the range of $35.

Other that those, I try to wait to get a GREAT price or don't buy it.

Last year I got Smallville S7 on BR for $19.99 at Best Buy, now I am waiting for S8 to drop big time in price. It is now in the $35 range, but I am holding out for under $30 in BR.

Re: Whats the most money you've spent on one VHS,laserdisc,DVD or Blu-ray?

Based on the original selling price, the thing I paid the most for was the Criterion Sid And Nancy for $60/65 bucks.

I've paid more than that for discs with higher initial retail, but that's the most I've paid for an OOP title.
