(More) Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck DVD's for 2010!!
http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Bug...VD-Plans/12959
Jerry Beck revealed that Warner will be releasing single disc Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck DVDs in April that will be all new to the home video market. This is good news for me, as Bugs is my absolute favorite of the whole Looney Tunes lot. Too much of a good thing doesn't apply to Bugs. |

If no dupes, fine. The single disc SKU will certainly make it easier to grab these, instead of the pricier boxsets. I still need Vols 4 and 6 of the Golden collections.
I also wish MST3K would also go back to single disc releases. |
Re: (More) Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck DVD's for 2010!!
Sounds like a good opportunity to finally add "Daffy Doodles" to the overall collection.

Interesting to see Warner's considering Gold Collection style releases for Tom & Jerry. Hopefully those dim bulbs will give us everything without a fuss this time around. Including Mom's Apple Pie!

Re: (More) Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck DVD's for 2010!!
Without having pawed through those links, I'll just say I'm still waiting for a nice release of Hare-way to the Stars (easily my all time favorite Looney Tunes short) so hopefully this single disc thing will work out...as long as they are offering new material.
There's still lots of stuff they never got around to in the Golden Collections I'd like to see. How about a set (or at least a disc) devoted to Foghorn Leghorn? |
Re: (More) Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck DVD's for 2010!!
There were no significant Looney Tunes release in 2009, were there? I'd welcome any unreleased-on-disc Looney Tunes cartoons. I hope they all are released on DVD eventually.

Re: (More) Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck DVD's for 2010!!
I really think they should do character-specific box sets in the vein of their classic Popeye shorts. One disc at a time is really weak.

Re: (More) Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck DVD's for 2010!!
Just so long as they include "Lumberjack Rabbitt" and "Upswept Hare," then I will be satisfied.
Lumberjack Rabbitt for Bugs' "Jimmy Crack Corn (And I Don't Care)" song Upswept Hare for how Bugs connives Elmer out of his Penthouse Apartment house. lol. That Bugs, what a swindler! |

I've always thought current TV shows could do something this, like every four episodes (for hour long shows, every 6-8 for half-hour shows), release a barebones disc, maybe a few EPK's or whatever, while the show is still running to help build the audience. I think I was even advocating this while Star Trek: Enterprise was still on the air as a way to build support. I wish MST3K was still released in single disc versions. It would be easier to pick them up and we wouldn't have to deal with entire boxsets getting stupid expensive on eBay just because one title goes out of print. Edit to add: And what I'd *really* like for Looney Tunes DVD's is mixed character single discs to truly replicate the old Saturday morning experience. I remember it was always an hour or 90 minute block on Sat morning, and it was a good mix of characters. The all character discs seem nice on paper, but get really repetitive when watching. |
Re: (More) Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck DVD's for 2010!!
What would be truly awesome is chronological sets like Sony is doing with The Stooges. A set for each year.

How many in the thousands-Looney Tunes so far haven't been released?

Re: (More) Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck DVD's for 2010!!
Without looking I believe it's somewhere around 1150. The number 1153 comed to mind. There's around 675 in the Golden Collections. Plus several as bonus features on Warner movie dvds that aren't in the collections. I think I have about a dozen of those on some of the gangster films, etc. I've got another 250 on vhs tape. I think a big chunk of the unreleased stuff may be the early B&W stuff from before the finalized characters that are well known. There are a lot of early B&W Porky's, Boskos and Buddy shorts not in the collections.
I meant there are about 375 shorts in the Golden Collections |
Re: (More) Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck DVD's for 2010!!
That's along the lines of what I remember. On DVD there are at least 600 unreleased shorts, or in other words, the majority of them have yet to be released. There's still a healthy chunk of prime material out there that a lot of folks would be surprised have not made it to disc yet. My only issue is that, at 30 new shorts for this year, it will take them over 20 years to get the rest out. Obviously an unrealistic plan.

Re: (More) Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck DVD's for 2010!!
According to the filmography section on wikipedia:
272 shorts were made from 1929 (Pilot, Bosko, the Talk-Ink Kid)-1939 307 shorts from 1940-1949 278 shorts from 1950-1959 147 shorts from 1960-1969 So all up there is 1004 shorts that we want on DVD (not including the ones made from the 1970s-2000s which I dont think anyone is interested in). Not counting the unrestored shorts as bonus shorts on the Golden Collection, we have 356 restored shorts. So WB would have to release another 648 restored shorts. If they release 30 shorts per year we should have them released in approximately 22 years lol. I doubt they'd go to the effort to restore the shorts that they added as bonus features on the GC's though. Hopefully we get two releases at a time, twice a year. So basically we'll be getting 60 restored shorts a year like we were anyway. |
Re: (More) Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck DVD's for 2010!!
But how many Bugs and Daffy shorts are still unreleased? They blew out a good chunk (if not all) of them with the Golden Collections.

Daffy Duck was in 129 shorts in the Golden Age Era -48 are on the GC's. The 94/48 numbers dont count the shorts as Bonus features. |

Ho-ho! They're including Which is Witch, one from the banned series?! That one is a knee-slapper! Totally makes up for excluding Lumberjack Rabbit.
