Don't shoot the messenger, just expect an announcement any second now....

January 5th, 2010 is the date....a 2D and 3D release!

Yeah, hopefully it'll get the 2-disc treatment like Final Destination 3 did.

You must think we are in 2005!

Probably a nice barebones release ;)

Shooting the messenger because this is probably crappy red/blue 3-D, not the REAL 3-D format that's supposed to be out some time this century.

I hope not. Part 3 had a lot of good features. I liked the "Choose A Death" feature they had. Thought that was cool. It would be great if this one had that too. I'm sure they'll have something. They better!.

you`re absolutely right, fd3 was loaded!
thats why i am afraid that it can only go down from there!
back in the day, new line still had the best releases. now
that warner has taken over, look at the releases they put
out the last couple of months! mostly basic barebones!
if they release a great set, it will most likely be bluray exclusive,
as with many recent titles.
i`ll certainly keep my fingers crossed, but my hopes are not
high for a great set.

Without the 3D—the real 3D as seen in cinemas—this was the least of the four movies in my tastes. It still touched all the bases, but without that one big gimmick, it probably would've been considered a tired rehash of whatever worked the first three times around. That's tot a bad idea, really, but I wonder if it would've made as much of an impression at the boxoffice if it was just 2D. Also, I can't imagine blue-red 3D doing any justice to the the effects in the picture, which were pretty cool. When true 3D is available to home viewers, this title would become a must.

Well in the past New Line has treated the series very very well. The first film in its day was rather feature packed and they gave the second film an "infinifilm" release. Hopefully they will follow suit, especially because I missed this one theatrically.

Unfortunately, those days when New Line still operated independently have long since gone by....
Ever since they were absorbed by Warner (who are now responsible for all aspects of their home video releases), you can see how they have pretty much just applied their standards when it comes to DVD/BD production to NL titles as well....

here is the official announcement:

luckily warner didn`t piss me off this time, i am looking forward to this release!
ok, the will squeeze 2d and 3d versions on one disc and only have additional
scenes as extra, but at least both versions will be released on dvd as well and not bluray exclusive. they will even throw in a nice lenticular sleeve!

So it is OK with you now that the Blu-ray edition has more bonus features?

Not happy that the alternate endings and "Body Count" featurette are BD exclusives.

well can`t have everything. ok there are some interesting extras like the alternate ends missing, but i find it acceptable that bluray will have some
exclusive special features.
in this case the standard dvd offers everything i wanted.
only thing that really pisses me off is still terminator salvation, where
the dvd doesnt get the directors cut version like the bluray. for me thats
just pushing it too much :D

I'm at peace with Blu-ray getting the bulk of special features now. I recognize that this is just the progression of technology, and I will upgrade at some point.

The more they give DVD the short end of the stick, the less attractive it becomes to me, the fewer I buy, the more money I save, and the sooner I will make my much-anticipated leap to HD home theater.

All the other Final Destination releases got lots of good special features-- even the two-disc treatment for the third-- but they don't seem to be trying too hard with this one.

Not sure if I'd buy this. Without the 3D gimmick, since I hate watching 3D movies at home, I don't think this was a good film. Hell, it wasn't that good with it. Unless I can find the BD for really cheap at some point, I'll likely pass.
