If it's similar to the Criterion Club it will be roughly like this:
  • Dozens or hundreds of us 'sign up' to be included.
  • Each of us pick one film which we want to discuss with the group.
  • A schedule will be made with one film per week.
  • We'll have a month or five's notice on the schedule to plan our renting/purchasing.
  • Threads will be opened each week, similar to the current 31 day subset threads.
sounds cool, would be into it.

Two I watched this month that probably don't count (I didn't count them) but I figured I'd ask as it would be nice to get a couple more in (I think I'm around 10 or so).

Without further ado they are:
Dark City and
Delicatessen

I figure with cannibalism, serial killers, alien possession, and creepy chattering dudes it's at least worth a shot.

I'd count Dark City. Haven't seen the other one, but we're pretty laid back as to what we allow to count. No one will start too much drama if you add these to your list (as long as you don't watch 13 of them in one day).

If I get to pick something for the horror club, that's going to be it. I was really impressed with how well it held up after all these years and I noticed so many cool things throughout its running time that I'd never noticed before.

There aren't enough days in October. Can't we take a few from a useless month like March and move them? I've still got 8 or 10 movies I wanted to get in plus 3 wildcards. Not to mention the dozens of unwatched horror titles I never got to.

Man, isn't that the truth!! I love the video reviews but just those short clips are PAINFUL to watch! I remember seeing those VHS boxes at the video store back in the day but never rented because there were gaps between available sequels (OCD gets me every time!). I am so glad that I steered clear of them!!

  • DVDEmpire will sponsor the Club, giving members a 40% discount on the selected titles.

All just my guesses/suggestions, I'll have just as much say as any of you on how it goes.
I'm definitely up for it as well. I have really enjoyed seeing a few movies through this challenge that I never knew existed. Would love to see a club continue like this.

I'm watching Feast right now, and I have to say I'm a bit disappointed. It doesn't quite live up to the hype. Even Henry Rollins doesn't seem to be enjoying his screen time. It sucks I pick a clunker working up to the finale.

I love Feast but it's definitely not for everyone. The sequels were freaking terrible though. I was extremely disappointed.

I'd like to think that I'm above hype or expectations either way affecting my enjoyment of a film, but perhaps not.

I went into Feast unaware of any hype, and pretty sure that I was going to hate it. I was pleasantly surprised and ended up really liking it. But then, I'm a sucker for creature features.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 5th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (Oct 1-31) P

I really went into it for Henry Rollins more than anything else. But as far as the hype goes, I was under the impression this was some low-budget indie-film that was a sleeper, but got high marks (like Dance of the Dead). I didn't realize all the big-names/Project Greenlight involvement until after I put it in. I'm a sucker for creature films as well, and in this case, I was expecting rubber suits and lots of cornstarch, but I got highly polished, quality FX.

Anyway, it just ended, and it was a lot of fun. I'll watch it again and I'm sure I'll enjoy it better for what it is.

Went to the store today and picked up a few horror movies I found in the $10 section. Found a 4 pack that included Wolfen, Bad Moon, Body Snatchers, and Coma, Phantasm: Oblivion, and Stephen King's It. Not a bad deal, 6 movies for under $30.

I'd be interested in the horror club as well. Why limit your horror watching to just October?

Finally broke 100 with the suckfest that is Repo! The Genetic Opera (had to wash it out with Evil Dead 2) plus have 2 wildcards left to spare.

Time to send a message out that we need a clean up on page 8.

Wish things hadn't turned out this way, Dave.

I'm with you. Was surprised by the first one. I wasn't expecting it to be very good at all, mostly because of the PGL track record, but ended up really enjoying it. Then I expected to enjoy the sequel, and thought it was one of the biggest pieces of shit I've seen in a while. Even with that I still watched part three, and thought it was just as bad as the second one.

___

I'm trying to end on a strong note. I was supposed to be shooting a short movie today, but the "talent" had to leave town for a few days because some one else was offering him a lot of money (we weren't offering any, so I can't blame him). So instead I have just been watching movies. Half way through the Killer Tomatoes saga, and not sure I'm going to finish. The plan was to watch all 4 tonight, but I'm just not sure I'm in the mood for 3 more hours of this. I actually think they are pretty funny movies and worth watching, but I don't know if the brand of humor would hold up for 6 hours straight.

Well, that was an unexpected turn of events.

I even received a similar response in his reply to my PM. And I was simply asking him to consider rejoining the festivities.

^ Yep. My only hope at this point is that there's still a fun horror movie marathon planned to take place in Bakershell tomorrow night. And that's not to poke fun at our former participant. Obviously the challenge became everything but fun over the last few days for him, which is exactly the opposite of what this challenge tries to promote.

I'm trying to ignore the sourness this thread has taken, but man, ZOMBIEDAVE, sometimes you just need to step away for a bit. I know you feel burned and pretty irritated, but you may need to cool off or just ignore all of this for a while. I hate to see a public forum designated for the love of a film genre go down like this.

Sure it can be tough. I made some comments in another thread that were quickly misconstrued, and it got me hot, so I just ignore that thread now. All the defending in the world will sometimes just bury you deeper. Well, whatever happens, keep lovin' those movies.

That happened with me in following with the third. I knew how bad the second was but was still holding out hope that somehow the third would improve. It did not. I'm really not sure what the hell happened along the way.

Count me in with the bunch seeing The Gruesome Twosome for the first time. Right now all I can say is Jess Franco, but with Beach Boys instead of Jazz, and "stuck" framing instead of a bunch of zooms. I'm mesmerized.
