It would be interesting to find the thread where the term "double dipping" was first used to describe this process. It's a great application of an old Seinfeld meme.

I was referring to the R1 SE as the one I'm going to buy down the road.
The CGI "2.0" remake that's already been released overseas is one I won't be getting.

Don't know if you've seen it already but in case you haven't here's a review link.

Looks kind of cool but like the reviewer notes, it's a little close to the same thinking that Lucas had with his revisions of Star Wars.

Oh yeah. I could go the purist route on this one, but since Oshii oversaw the changes and I have no doubt this will not be another "my childhood was raped by Lucas" scenario. I'm actually interested in seeing 2.0 if it gets released state side. I have way more faith in Oshii than I do Lucas.

The still pics of the new artwork I've seen before (although that link you listed is a good reference point) but I'd like to see it altogether as a picture in motion. Apparently Oshii is trying to capture more of the Innocence look and I'm interested to see if it actually works. The puppet master's voice was also redone and I believe there are a few scenes that also have been manipulated.

Ghost in the Shell can never be changed in my eyes, but just for the sake of anything that is a part of the Gits world, I need to see it.

To fans of the movie Alien..

I own the 2001 special edition DVD, and because the directors cut was released in 2003, my DVD only includes the original release. I'm really desperate to see the directors cut, and was wondering whether or not I should buy the Definitive Edition which includes this plus what appears to be much more special content.

Re: Have you ever upgraded from a DVD to a better DVD version?

I prefer the original Alien DVD.

The 2-Disc is just the deleted scenes from the first DVD re-inserted into the film. Ridley Scott himself said it's not really a 'director's cut' because the theatrical version is exactly how he wanted it.

However, the featurettes are pretty lengthy and informative interviewing everyone from Weaver, Scott to Dan O'Bannon the writer.

In that case it should be named the "extended special edition" not the directors cut. Anyway, I'll properly still buy it due to the awesome cover art, and what appears to be more special features. I'll properly be re-buying Aliens also, as I only own the 1 disc edition which only comes with a few trailers and a James Cameron interview..

Re: Have you ever upgraded from a DVD to a better DVD version?

It makes me a little sad inside to think how often I've done this.
Just today I bought the BD version of Live Free or Die Hard ... and I own single (unrated) and double disc (theatrical, with more bonus features than the UNR edition) DVD editions of that film. Sniff.

Re: Have you ever upgraded from a DVD to a better DVD version?

Yes. More often that I would have liked. But only for films that are important to me.
Notably:
To Kill a Mockingbird
Clerks
Mallrats
Field of Dreams
Die Hard Trilogy
Superman Collection
Enter the Dragon
James Bond films

I am sure there are more, but I cant think of anymroe off the top of my head.

That's like asking us if we've ever masturbated before - yes and many, many times.
