I missed watching any movies last night for Scarowinds. We all had a blast though, they did a really good job this year.

^Ditto. I had 2 movies lined up before midnight (I'm on the west coast), but it looks I'll only have time for just one.

I finally got my list caught up. I have been neglecting it big time. Now hopefully I'll actually keep it up to date.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005), first time viewing. Not a bad movie, interesting film in general mixing court room drama with supernatural. I watched it via Fearnet.com, and it's the first film I watched in full through that site. There streaming quality seems to have severely diminished lately though, and the film was shown in 1.78:1 instead of 2.35:1. Also looking the film up on movie-censorship.com, it was the PG-13 version that was available for viewing despite the 'tv-ma' rating before it began.
Videodrome (1983). Finally, I get a Cronenberg film watched after never getting to them in past challenges. This aired completely uncut on TCM believe it or not! It's an excellent and very twisted film though. It's still a bit confusing, though I sort of 'get it' more now than I did in the past. In fact, i didn't find the film as 'slow' as I did in the past and it moved at a nice pace.
Jaws 2 (1978), while i've seen most of the film in parts on tv growing up. I don't think I ever watched the entire thing in one viewing until now! I'd say it's a pretty dull sequel, that does have a few great set pieces. It's pretty tame compared to the first film as well, which is a shame. Seeing more of the shark doesn't help either and takes away from any suspense. However there is some great underwater photography, and some great scenes and shots with the shark fin surfacing and bolting through the water. However the first film remained entertaining from begining to end, whether it took place on land or sea, and is just perfect. So it's a shame the sequel didn't have the same atmosphere to keep ones interest.
The Brain That Wouldn't Die (1962) talky, sleazy very old school trash. I saw the cut version via the MGM vhs. I've seen the uncut version years ago on tv, and I'm confused about one thing. The title card at the end of both versions is completely different. The uncut version has a "The Head That Wouldn't Die" title card. While the cut version has "The End" and a 'atlas something, Feb1962' copyright notice on it. So which version was originally released in theaters? I always heard this cut 70 minute version was a tv edit. But the different end title cards is perplexing and I can't imagine the uncut version getting past the censors at the time for theatrical release. So what's the story on this films release history?

^^ You've just mentioned two of my favorite movies of all time Julie.
Jaws is the best film ever*, so the sequel had no chance of coming close to it. Still, for a sequel it was pretty good.
The Brain That Wouldn't Die was one of those films that shaped me into the twisted film fan I am today. It is one of the first horror films that I can remember, and I re-watch it often. The MST3K version is very funny. The wiki and IMDB pages offer some good trivia and background. The film had at least two possible titles before being released in theaters under the current name.
* I'll sometimes say the same thing about Ordet, or Ben Hur, or Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

How did I make it sound bad? I LOVE "The Mist." It's one of my favorite movies. It just really upsets me and makes me cry at the end. Sorry I feel human emotions. And I take exception about the "crappy movies"comment. I like a lot of different movies. If other people want to say those movies are crappy, that's their loss, not mine. I'm not snipping on everyone's posts and telling them every movie they say they like is crappy. People have different tastes; it makes life interesting.

Saw it 4-5 years ago and really enjoyed it. I haven't watched it since but I plan on watching the DVD I got a while back for the first time since I don't remember much about it except for a few images.

^ The Mist is great. And I felt like jumping in the TV and strangling that fucker after that particular scene.
Anyway, I picked up the Ringu Anthology yesterday and currently I'm in the middle of a lazy Sunday Ring marathon ...minus The Ring Virus and Ring 2 (shitty American sequel).
Just finished watching Ringu for the second time and while I respect it, it's not even remotely scary to me. The American remake may rely on a few cheap jump scares and CGI, but it's just plain scarier and more suspenseful, IMO. The one time they actually got it right.
I sincerely hope the sequels and prequel don't suck...

^ be prepared to let down. The sequels are terrible, for the most part.
I like Ringu and the only reason, I prefer it to The Ring is the editing. I loved The Ring but the editing was terrible like
That's one of the reasons why even though I like the remake, I still prefer the original.

I might have raved about this set some last year, but now that I'm watching it again I like the films even more.
Six Films to Keep You Awake, a set of Spanish horror films released last year, is excellent.
They are short, about 80 minutes each, and may have been produced similarly to Masters of Horror. But these are like Citizen Kanes to MoH's Ishtars. As cheap as $10 used, and several of them are worth that price alone.

I just went through my list, and was surprised to find that of the 69 films I've watched so far for the challenge, 34 of them were ones I'd never seen before.
That ratio will get less impressive from now on though, since the rest of the DVDs I have are of films I've already seen. I've actually been spending the past 10 days or so clearing out my unwatched list, as well as watching the additional horror DVDs I've bought this month. I'm looking forward to finishing those in the next couple of days, since I still have some older DVDs I really want to watch before the challenge is over.

At any rate, I've hit a massive wall these last few days with my list. Middle of the month and I'm completely exhausted from work. I'm on vacation as of right now so I ought to squeeze a few more in. Planning some trips to the theater too.

The Thing with Two Heads aired on broadcast television last night. I could have watched Rosey Grier, Ray Milland's head and Don Marshall zip around the countryside on a single motocross cycle for the entirety of the film's runtime. No plot. No dialogue. Just long extended shots of the three (two-and-a-half?) characters perpetually riding towards the horizon on a dirtbike.
I would put the movie on my list; but it was on broadcast television, and I tuned in about ten minutes into the film. That's the second opportunity that I've squandered in so many nights to add a "two-headed monster" movie to my list.
Possible wildcard: The Simpsons "Treehouse of Horror XX" airs on Fox tonight. The series' writing may be in steady decline, but the Halloween episodes are usually kind of fun. Check your local listings.
