I have to say... as a hardcore fan of The Howling I can't say if I was offended or just took the sequel in stride but wow, The Howling II was just outright wrong in so many ways - to say the threesome sex scene was hysterical, is an understatement - and of course the end credits with Sybil Danning barring her breasts 17 times - had me in tears of laughter.

Anyone else incapable of watching a sequel without watching the original first?

I rented Troll and Troll 2 for the subset, hope to get to both tonight.

these movies have literally nothing to do with each other...troll 1 is pretty bad unless you're like me and watched it 100 times when you were younger. troll 2 is an absolute masterpiece.

All this talk about the Argento cut of Dawn of the Dead. I feel bad saying that's the one version of the film that I've never bothered to watch. Any time I think about watching the movie, I always opt for the theatrical or extended cut. Maybe I'll force myself to watch the Argento cut for the challenge!

I think I'm going to be hitting The Fog today as well (or maybe tomorrow). Despite being a John Carpenter fan, I've actually never seen it. There are a few others from him I haven't seen, but I'm going to try to hit those up during the challenge as well.

I shudder to think about how many times I saw Troll as a kid. I loved that movie! Of course, like so many movies from my childhood, it's hard to believe I loved it so much.

I never saw Troll 2 until last night. It makes Death Bed look like an absolute masterpiece, and it has absolutely not a damn thing to do with the first Troll movie. They don't even call the things trolls!

Edit to add: I just looked at the IMDB entry for the first Troll movie, and I couldn't help cracking up. The names of the father and son in Troll are listed as Harry Potter Jr. and Harry Potter Sr. Do you think JK Rowling was inspired by this movie to create a certain boy wizard?

I'm with you there. I watched The Howling II just a couple of days ago, and that movie was just such a big turd! That must be one of the steepest drops in quality from the original to a sequel (Exorcist springs to mind as well).

Doesn't matter to my sick little mind.

Looking forward to a few days from now, when I'll view the original Dawn of the Dead for the first time ever. Yes, I'm ashamed of myself.

My OCD extends to not wanting to watch a sequel unless I've seen the original within the last year, or even less. For example, I'll probably never watch The Godfather Part 2 without watching The Godfather immediately before it. My brain just won't let me.

Watched Mutant Chronicles last night. Whew! Talk about a shitty flick... It physically hurt sitting through that one. John Malkovich gives what can easily be considered the worst performance of his career. Everything is laughably bad.

I love The Howling 2 just for its cheesyness and sleaze. Not very good but it entertains!

I think you better do as he says. We are in a horror thread and he looks to be pointing a gun at you. I think he really is serious.

I know I should, but it's coming up as the subset film in a couple days.

It's my warped mind I know, but I have a sort of 'save the best for last' philosophy. There are thousands of movies that i want to watch, and dozens of them are classics that I'm pretty sure I'll love. So I'm staggering my viewing of those, in order to guarantee some great moments each year.

I never saw The Godfather films until last year, for example, and finally watched Citizen Kane last month.

Messed up thinking I'm sure, but it works for me.

I'll be watching it for the first time too. Even worse, I've seen the remake multiple times including once in the theater.

So what do I have to do to get Blockbuster to ship new movies? I returned everything I had Friday and they received them Monday, but they've only shipped one since.

FYI: Troll 2 is available through Hulu
http://www.hulu.com/troll-2

Before you hit play, look at the picture and explain to me which part of the movie has any relation to absolutely anything in that picture.

They also made a 3rd one which once again doesn't really have anything to do with the previous one.

One of my favorite things about this challenge is to see all the people who are just now watching films I've loved for years and hearing their impressions.

Glad you enjoyed it!!

I watched this one over the weekend for the first time myself. and I loved it, it does deserve the credit it gets. Most of the films for me this year are all first time viewing.

Talking of which, I can't believe I've almost met my goal already and there are a couple of weekends left in the month. too bad I have to work in the weekends otherwise I could see myself trying to reach the 50 film mark.
