Funny people (11/24/09)

SO Judd Apatow's wonderful film Funny People will be coming to DVD on November 24th, 2009.
Easily one of my favorite movies of the year it will be available to own in a 1- disk Rated & Unrated edition and a two disk Special edition.
The Theatrical version runs 146 minutes long and the Unrated Version runs for 153 minutes long.
I cant wait for this DVD. Greatly looking forward to the 2-disk set.

I'm kind of torn as to whether or not I want to buy this, extra features unseen. I appreciate the DVD packages that Apatow productions have produced, but I'm not entirely in love with this film. Looking forward to more info, in the meantime. May be worth another look with diminished expectations.

i am surprised that this title hasn`t been announced by dvdactive and dvdtimes yet and that there is still no artwork for it.

While flawed, I got what this film was trying to do (basically, be Apatow's version of a James L. Brooks film), and enjoyed it. I'll be in for the Blu.

I didnt see this in theaters, and havent heard many good things from my usual sources for film critique. I ahve liked most of Apatow's stuff, so I will at least rent it. Depending on the packaging/extras/cost I may even blind buy it. Looking forward to more info.

Didn't see this, but I like Apatow's films and the cast involved here. Day 1 BD for me.

hmmm...two disc. Depending on the special features, I mightt buy it, watch it, and then sell it on Amazon to make my money back. I love Leslie Mann but I wasen't completely impressed with the movie. Too long, the last half of the movie diden't keep my attention.

missed this in theaters yet it was one of my most anticipated films.

I'll pick up the two disc, day one.

Way too long for a comedy. That's the main problem with Apatow films.

Apatow is smarter than you are and knows how to make good movies and I for one am extremely glad he never listens to people like you.

I'm no chris_sc77 supporter, but for once I agree with him. People who said this movie is too long need to learn a little patience. I admit there are probably some things that can go, but most people complaining about Funny People's runtime seem to be complaining just because it's long, not because they've targeted specific scenes they think could be excised.

I'm glad to read some positive mentions for this movie here. I had read about it, and was looking forward to seeing it - but the ad campaign completely turned me off. If I had to hear that stupid Harry Potter age joke one more time, I was going to cut someone.

Generally, I like Apatow - so I will be sure to check this one out.

I haven't seen this movie yet. Two and a half hours for a comedy is, traditionally too long. When I saw that running time and remembered how draaaawn out the directors cut of 40 year old virgin was and how long Knocked Up seemed, I passed it up in theaters.

I'm sure I'll rent Funny People someday.

He's smarter than I am?

from the guy who wouldn't buy a ticket to support Zombieland (one of the most fun & violent movies of the year) just because of it's short running time?

I don't think length will be an issue for me. I mean, the Almost Famous extended cut runs 162 minutes and it is my favorite movie of all-time.

Needless to say, two-disc BD day one purchase for me.

To extend this: Almost Famous in it's theatrical cut is a great movie, Almost Famous in it's extended cut makes it an amazing movie.

Apatow's extended cuts have always been a mixed bag. The only two films I can appreciate in their extended forms are Knocked Up and Superbad. The others take away from the pacing (The 40 Year Old Virgin) or ruin and flat-out delete great gags (Anchorman).

Yeah, 40 yr. old Virgin had a crap extended version. It was just scenes placed in randomly, that's what it felt like.
