For anyone into holiday horror don't forget to watch Eli Roth's faux trailer Thanksgiving which is apparently being developed into a feature in the not to distant future. I'm sure it counts as a short film.

Note that ABC Family is also doing the countdown to 25 days of Christmas, starts November 10th.

Schedule: http://community.abcfamily.go.com/25...stmas/schedule

Of course this is all useless for me given that I am in Canada but for the people who get ABC family, good knowledge. I assume most of the big stuff in the countdown will also be in the 25 days to Christmas, but just in case you could always PVR the stuff you'd like to watch during the challenge.

After my horrible Halloween showing I hope to make up for it in this challenge. Christmas is my season.

I don't think I'm going to be proactive enough to update the "master" lists I posted last year with people's watched lists, but I will update them if anyone has any specific titles they want me to add. I am already planning on adding the horror movies mentioned earlier in this thread.

Also, if anyone has comments on the ones I have question marks next to, that would help clean it up a bit.

Eventually, I will post them in this thread, but for now, here are the links:

Re: It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like The 5th Annual Holiday Movie Challenge (11/23-1

My daughter wanted to watch something Christmas-y the other day. I said to her, "Honey, why don't we wait until it's closer to Christmas," which was code for "Honey, we have to wait for the DVDTalk challenge to start."

haha thats cute. I'm guessing for some here being part of the Christmas challenge provides a great way to spend time with the little ones eh?

I'm hoping that the horror challenge will eventually become a great way to spend time with the little ones too. Wife hates horror movies so they are my last hope.

Maybe it's been brought up before and I missed it, and I'm not trying to start a fight or anything... but why do we not start the challenge earlier? I remember it being suggested that it start the weekend before Thanksgiving.

TM has already extended it twice. From just December to include Thanksgiving, and then to add the 1st.

But I'm with you, and would prefer a few more days before Thanksgiving and a day after the first to watch all the movies/specials specific to those holidays.

Re: It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like The 5th Annual Holiday Movie Challenge (11/23-1

I just brought it up because I remember last year having so many opportunities to watch Thanksgiving themed TV shows the weekend before Thanksgiving. But then the week of (when the challenge started), I was too busy to watch anything. After Thanksgiving, I moved on to Christmas themed stuff. It just seemed like a missed opportunity.

I think the start date is fine, I don't have lot of thanksgiving stuff to watch, and I'll be done with it by thansgiving day then on to all the christmas viewing.

I think starting it the Monday before is okay, I just always thought there wasn't too much Thanksgiving stuff out there. But I don't want to keep extending it it's already over a month long, but I do understand where everyone is coming from.

You're right, and 40 days is a nice cool number. Might make for good parts of the checklist or a discussion subset, "40 holiday shows/films in 40 days."

Also, we need to keep most of November free for a future Comedy Challenge. (I know, enough with the multiple challenges already!)

Wow, a challenge between the horror movie challenge and the holiday challenge, I'd be dead by the time we hit the halfway point in the holiday challenge. This time of year is always fun to me, but by the time we get the Academy Award challenge in January I usually don't take a very big part in it because I'm usually dead tired after having 3 almost back to back challenges. It sounds like the comedy one would have to overlap into the holiday one, since there's only about 3 weeks between the horror one and the holiday one. For people like me who take part in almost all the challenge s (no sci-fi, don't have a lot of sci-fi films and the criterion one I didn't partake in because I have like 3 criterion movies) it would be very hard to do.

Yep, I don't think anyone should go 'full force' on all the Challenges. It would not be healthy. But I'm pretty sure we are going to end up with at least 12 of them, so there has to be some overlap.

Most people will only be interested in a couple of them of course. And I would encourage most participants to use them just as a possible focus for their normal amount of watching. I think most people already do them that way, with only a few of us occasionally going crazy and watching insane amounts just because it's a Challenge.

I'm really excited about the Holiday Challenge this year. I have been collecting a lot of new-to-me holiday films and shorts, and look forward to plowing through a bunch of them.
