Exorcist II: The Heretic rerelease on Nov 3
Haven't been able to find any details. It's available for pre-order at sites like Amazon but there's no info other than it's packaged in a keep case. It would be great if this had some Boorman commentary, haha, but I think this is just a simple packaging upgrade from the old snap-case.

I'm always defending this movie. I find it far preferable to Friedkin's film. I love the message of global unity, the move toward metaphysics away from the strict Catholicism of the first film, the way Regan becomes a hero, and, of course, the great score by Ennio Morricone.
It's not for all tastes. The masses prefer the manipulation and cheap sensationalism of the first film. EXORCIST II demands a little more from the audience.

To tell you the truth, I've always tried to watch this film but I just can't seem to get past a specific part. Of what I've always seen, I didn't think it was as bad as everyone says.
Then again, I haven't seen the entire thing. So what do I know.

I recall reading that the due to the negative reviews and poor box office, Exorcist II was recut 3 times during it's initial US run, then again for the European release. Does anyone know what version made it to DVD?

Never was a big fan of the 2nd or 3rd. The 2 prequels were pretty good. I have the The "Exorcist: The Complete Anthology" set. You can pick up for $20.00 now-a-days. For the money I would say its the best buy out there. It come with...
- The Exorcist
- The Exorcist: The Version You've Never Seen
- Exorcist II: The Heretic
- Exorcist III
- Exorcist: The Beginning
- Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist
- The Exorcist
- The Exorcist: The Version You've Never Seen
- Exorcist II: The Heretic
- Exorcist III
- Exorcist: The Beginning
- Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist

I remember even as a 12 year old that I wanted nothing to do with this film. I always thought it was creepy when the locusts swarmed the kid and he mugs to the camera and says "PAZUZU!" though.

Watching Linda Blair's tapdance routine (and fall) is one ridiculous highlight.

The film is marvelously shot by William Fraker and has really nice production design by Richard McDonald. I'm also a fan of the Ennio Morricone score.
Acting wise, Richard Burton was completely over the top and Louise Fletcher (coming off her academy award for OFOTCN) gave an incredibly wooden performance.
Linda Blair never looked hotter.
This new edition has to be just a re-packaged version, though I would love to see a 2 disc special edition. This was a very ambitious failure with a unique place in motion picture history.

Additionally, The Spy Who Loved Me and A Bridge Too Far were also playing in theaters around that time and were doing pretty well.

Different release patterns were in effect (Exorcist 2 opened with 700 prints- HUGE for the time), but you have to remember Star Wars had opened two months earlier and was still making barrels of money.
