Re: Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut - 11/3/09
I got my review copy today.
Very impressive case. My suspicion regarding the "Limited Edition" nature of the release is that this set will go OOP. However, I would be shocked if first disc of this set (the extended Director's cut with dual commentary tracks) isn't re-released later down the line; maybe the second disc would be with it as it contains the bonus features.
However, the remaining three discs are a digital copy of the theatrical edition and the motion comic, which is just the original motion comic release as it was sold in stores. Same case, same content.
In a way it makes more sense than what the did with Blade Runner, where they sold a 2, 4, and 5 disc edition of the film. I know quit a few people who just bought the two disc because it was cheaper. Had they just sold the 4 and 5 disc without telling people later, the 2-disc was coming, a lot of people would have bought the more expensive set.

Yeah, exactly. Just because we might think it's cool doesn't mean there's a big demand. Hell, even the director isn't particularly excited about this cut.

Watchmen Ultimate Cut Bluray was a blind buy for me. I never saw any version before today. It was brilliant, a truly epic film. The Black Freighter segments enhanced the story. Picture and sound were outstanding. Highly recommended.

About 5.75" wide, 7.75" tall, 1.75" thick.
It's just slightly taller and wider than a standard case, since a standard case has to fit inside.

Deep Discount price is lowered to $30.89...and its out of stock
Amazon.com has raised the price of the Blu-Ray from $32.99 to $39.49.
Deep Discount has raised the price of the Blu-Ray to $48.26.
Walmart.com is SOLD OUT of the Blu-Ray.
Dvdfile.com (which has never been wrong on their reviews that I know of) says that there are only 70,000 Blu-Rays. Anybody know the details on how limited the dvd and Blu-Ray really are?
