Re: Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut - 11/3/09

Well I went to the Best Buy here in Scottsdale to get all the stuff I pre-ordered from their website and was told Watchmen just didn't show up at all. (I only first heard about the week delay on this site last night) No on there knew why (as none of the DVD sites know either).

Strangely enough, Clone Wars Blu-Ray also went through the same thing. Anyone know if that one got delayed as well?

I also went to my local BB and no Watchmen: TUC or Clone Wars in sight. But I did get Christmas Vacation: UCE :-)

Doubtful, as Amazon shipped my order for it this morning...and I saw a copy of the BD version at Moviestop earlier today as well....

Re: Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut - 11/3/09

Are all the WATCHMEN ULTIMATE CUT DVDs going to be the same at each store? Is there going to be any version that's different (special packaging, more extras) ?

Re: Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut - 11/3/09

Got mine yesterday at walmart for $34.99. Remember that $10 coupon that some of us registered for months ago that was to be delivered via email on the day of release? Turns out because it was invisible, Walmart didn't accept it and I paid full price. They had only about 4-5 copies of the standard. No Bluray copies though.

Re: Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut - 11/3/09

I'll try to post screens soon. But for now, why don't I just describe it: 3-disc digipak with the motion comic in a standard case just as you'd find at the store, both stuffed in a thick cardboard case that magnetically locks. Disc one holds all 3 h 35mins feature film plus one 5.1 and two comentaries on one DVD-9. Disc two has all special features from previous DC plus few more totalling nearly 3 hours. Disc 3 has shit digital copy. Disc 4 & 5 are the exact same motion comic discs that most of us already own.

bump: someone's unboxing video. Thats all.

Note: That's not me!

Re: Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut - 11/3/09

what does he say about Blu-Ray owners in that video? Something about Blu (as we knew for this one) only gets 4 while DVD gets 5. It contains the same stuff...he must not keep up on his DVD details.

"haha stupid Blu-Ray owners have a four disc set.....*unintelligible* (gives you four disc only/owners?)"

I like the packaging.

Blu-Ray probably has four, because the motion comic can fit on one disc.

Re: Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut - 11/3/09

So the 5D DVD has the same content as the 4D Blu-ray?

I'm really only interested in this for the Dave Gibbons commentary track, and already have the director's cut on Blu-ray, so I'd buy the standard DVD to save a few bucks.

Yea, Boba Fett is right, the reason for the disc count difference is just the Motion Comic. The contents are the same on Blu and DVD from what I've read.

Do I need this set if I already own:
1) Watchmen 2-disc Director's Cut (SteelBook)
2) Tales of the Black Freighter/Under the Hood (SteelBook)
3) Complete Motion Comic

I was wondering this as well. If the Ultimate Cut is just the Director's Cut with Tales Of The Black Freighter woven in, I probably will pass on this.

Or at least wait until it's way cheaper

especially since the WB coupon isn't coming out til Dec which seems absurd that it wouldn't coincide with the release date. even if it was moved up the coupon should have as well.

i would probably only get because on the commentaries and whatever new extras there are, if they were outstandingly worth it, but even then i would think about it, but if someone said that the new movie discs were in the vein of other Ultimate Editions (Dawn of the Dead, etc) i would think about it a bit more.

Re: Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut - 11/3/09

I have it but I have not had a chance to watch it yet. The packaging is very nice. Based on the descriptions of the special features disc, it looks like it is everything from the director's cut dvd set, the featurettes on the Tales from the Black Freighter dvd and the rest of the extras are the featurettes from the blu-ray. The only things that are completely new are the two commentaries. The packaging lists the special features disc as "over 2 hours of bonus content." Sorry I can't comment on the movie since I won't be able to watch it until the weekend.

If you have all of those, all that you are missing is new bridging sequences between the movie and the Black Freighter stuff, the two audio commentaries, and two features that were previously on Blu-ray but not DVD.

Re: Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut - 11/3/09

I wait for the coupon and if I can get it then for a good price (around $20-25) I will buy it, otherwise I pass. I have the 3 other Blu-rays.
