Official MST3K / Rifftrax / Cinematic Titanic DVD Thread

I thought this thread title would better serve those of us who want to talk about these releases, instead of having most of it in the vaguely titled "Mike Nelson" thread.

So, to get things started, some news from Cinematic Titanic:

Hey Everyone,
We’re excited to announce our next live shows: 5 NIGHTS/5 MOVIES at LARGO at the CORONET in Los Angeles. Come join us OCTOBER 25-29th at one of our favorite venues as we perform some of our very favorite riffs:

SUNDAY OCT. 25th , 7:30pm– “LEGACY OF BLOOD”

See the first-time live riff of one of our favorite DVD releases!

MONDAY OCT. 26th, 7:30pm – “DANGER ON TIKI ISLAND”

Living on an island near a nuclear testing zone has its downsides – i.e. being terrorized by one of the worst movie monsters ever!

TUESDAY OCT. 27th , 7:30pm – “SANTA CLAUS CONQUERS THE MARTIANS”

See the fully re-riffed version of an MST3K classic.

WEDNESDAY OCT. 28th, 7:30pm – “THE ALIEN FACTOR”

Aliens invade Baltimore, and they have no budget!

THURSDAY OCT. 29th, 7:30pm – “EAST MEETS WATTS”

Stud Brown and Larry Chin take on a drug cartel in this “Kung-sploitation” classi…uh, movie.

Best,
The CT Gang

Since this is now the "official" thread for all this stuff, I have a question. I've looked into this but haven't seen anything new about it in quite some time. Is there any chance that we might ever see a rerelease of Vol. 9, much like we got with Vol. 10?

It is really absurd how much that set goes for on eBay. When all the MST discs started coming out, I was too broke to afford them. Now that I've finally been able to start playing catch-up, there are some OOP sets or discs that are just so damn expensive.

It seems unlikely, now that distribution has switched from Rhino to Shout! Shout probably doesn't want to/can't re-release a Rhino volume, and Rhino may not have the rights to re-release it.

Re: Official MST3K / Rifftrax / Cinematic Titanic DVD Thread

^^ That's pretty much what I figured/was afraid of. I know that eventually I'll tighten the belt and splurge on buying the OOP titles that I don't have, but it's difficult to think about paying almost $200 for one MST3K set.

And here's a link to the "official" MST3K website:

http://www.mst3k.com

(Although less useful than the Shout! Factory link DVD-wise, this does have "Riff of the Day" which is more useful MST-wise!)

Re: Official MST3K / Rifftrax / Cinematic Titanic DVD Thread

Actually I was wrong. The next Rifftrax is The Matrix Revolutions on 9/29. The first two tracks were good, and I said the only way I'll ever watch the third film is if they do a Rifftrax for it, so here we go.

If you're like most of us, you stormed out of your midnight viewing of The Matrix Reloaded saying to yourself "Man, was that terrible! When I come back in six months to see The Matrix Revolutions, they had better balance out those ponderous scenes of two characters quietly discussing the minutiae of the plot with a lot more tedious action sequences where I can't tell what is going on. And instead of involving Neo, Morpheus and Trinity, you know, the characters we care about, it should mainly focus on people we've never seen before. Like a whiny kid and a butch chick with a crew cut. Give them prominent roles! Now hurry up and refill my Dew, I already bought tickets to see this again at 2:35 AM!"

If your conversation mirrored ours in any way, then you're in luck: The Matrix Revolutions delivers on all bullet points! Abandoning all the pseudo-philosophical mumbo-jumbo that for a brief window had desperate college professors teaching lectures on the original movie, Revolutions instead dials the THX up to 11 and hopes you don't notice because your eardrums are too busy rupturing. Your enjoyment also depends heavily on understanding the plot of Reloaded, which was mathematically proven to be impossible in a Harvard study. And to top it off, there's a healthy dose of old-fashioned, ham-fisted blasphemy thrown in for good measure.

Mike, Kevin and Bill jack in to deliver The Matrix series a hearty goodbye "whoa."

Another Cinematic Titanic live show update:

Hey Everyone,

Well, we know what we're doing for New Year's Eve this year, do you? We'll be performing a 3 MOVIE MARATHON live at the Keswick Theatre in Philadelphia (more specifically, Glenside, PA). Tickets go on sale this Saturday!

http://www.keswicktheatre.com/

Those of you who attended our sold-out shows at the Trocadero earlier this year needn't worry about repeats, we're coming back with 3 different movies than last time:

"War of the Insects"
"Samson and the Seven Miracles"
Then we'll ring in the New Year and after midnight,
"Frankenstein’s Castle of Freaks"

Is that some marquee or what? You can make elaborate New Year’s Eve plans that will undoubtedly turn out to be a letdown, or you can come plant your butt in one place and proceed to laugh it off with us.

And Don't Forget:

10/25-10/29 – L.A.,CA - Five Nights/Five Movies live at Largo at the Coronet – See Largo Calendar for movie schedule -

http://www.largo-la.com/

11/21 – CT Live at the Family Arena – "War of the Insects"

I think it's fairly decent. It's north of town near the turnpike. Spent a week in nearby Willow Grove for a training class, and drove around a good bit. Most places I went were really nice, actually.

Thanks for update, I should have both of these well in advance of Halloween! I do have mixed emotions about these dvd releases from Rifftrax. Many times now the discs have made a horrible racket in my player(s) and refuse to load up. Rifftrax is very good about crediting for defective discs, but, dammit I want the movie!

Bummer! I have almost all of them now but absolutely no time to watch most of them, so I've only seen two of the Shorts. Should I be worried about any particular movie?

I have all of them as well and had problems with the four Shorts comps and Little Shoppe specifically. The issue is warpage of the disc itself, causing it to rattle horribly in the player. I don't want to discourage anyone from ordering, Conner at Rifftrax is really good at helping to solve any problems that might arise. I'm a huge MST fan and am willing to suffer a few inconveniences for new product. I just wish the Rifftrax guys would use the same manufacturer that CT uses, the discs seem to be higher quality.

If anyone's been weary about Rifftrax, I highly recommend the Planet of Dinosaurs DVD. The print is awful (although it is a public domain one) but the track is vintage MST3K. Great stuff. And the menu song on the DVD is hilarious.

I quite agree with Chuck's assessment, the Voodoo Man DVD is great also. Good news from CT as well, looks like the East Meets Watts DVD should be released before the end of the year.

Re: Official MST3K / Rifftrax / Cinematic Titanic DVD Thread

I think I'll be OK with the audience reaction on the audio track since I saw this one live (I've had my autographed poster on the wall since May). I think they are planning on making this a one time only sort of thing.

Re: Official MST3K / Rifftrax / Cinematic Titanic DVD Thread

Shout Factory just announced the episode list for Vol. 17 (due in March):

• 101- THE CRAWLING EYE
• 415- THE BEATNIKS (with short: GENERAL HOSPITAL PT 2)
• 910- THE FINAL SACRIFICE
• 1005- BLOOD WATERS OF DR. Z

Woo Hoo! Rowsdower! I guess they worked out the rights issues (ie. offered the rights holders more money) with Final Sacrifice.

Apart from that, a pretty solid set. Not crazy about more Season 1, but since it was the first CC episode, I guess it's an "important" episode.

I don't believe I just bought Final Sacrifice from Cheepnis! At least it only cost like $5...guess the rights holders saw it was the top selling DVD on that site and figured they were missing out on $$.

Got my ticket to the next Rifftrax live event. Maniac was a pretty solid video release from them. I recently watched and hated Drag Me to Hell. Needed the rifftrax bad for that one.

As far as CT goes I saw East Meets Watts live. Hopefully the quality of the DVD will be good. The riffing was excellent for it.

Can't believe we get Sacrifice on DVD, but the Crawling Eye is a pretty bad episode even though I still want it released.

It's about damn time episode #101 - The Crawling Eye was released! That being the first cable episode, it should have been out years ago!!

And I personally don't mind more Season 1 episodes as long as it's the right Season 1 episodes. (Others that I think should be released are #107 - Robot Monster, #110 - Robot Holocaust, #112 - Untamed Youth, and #113 - The Black Scorpion.)
