Re: Official MST3K / Rifftrax / Cinematic Titanic DVD Thread

I got three packs. They look pretty good, but they’re also mostly based on the first three seasons so they might not be ideal for Mike fans (later seasons will be covered in future releases).

I saw that season 11 is up for preorder on RiffTrax, as well as the making-of documentary. I wasn’t expecting them to be available DRM-free for anyone other than Kickstarter backers, so that’s a nice bonus for people who want them that way.

Re: Official MST3K / Rifftrax / Cinematic Titanic DVD Thread

I know that not every Rifftrax release gets a mention here, and it's not a disc released, but...

Rifftrax just released a riff of "Gammera the Invincible" (not a typo). It's an American re-edit of the first Gamera movie, inserting American actors, similar to the first Godzilla movie.

https://www.rifftrax.com/gammera-the-invincible
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamera...onster#Release

I suppose that as an American specific re-edit, it has different licensing than the other Gamera movies, so this probably isn't a sign of Shout Factory being able to re-issue their Gamera MST3K volume.

Someone who visited the set during filming this week said they saw a clip of the “long-requested” flick they’re riffing.

I’ll spoil it below, but I’m excited.

Spoiler:

The hit Paul Rudd film Mac & Me

Season 12 pledge drive went live, allowing one to buy that forthcoming season early, and other swag.

RiffTrax has added a VOD version of Battlefield Earth. It’s the same as the MP3 riff from a decade ago, but it’s nice to have audio and video together.

Oh wow, this flew under the radar for me. They just quietly get the rights and then let it roll? I wonder if this means they'll be able to get more and more rights for VOD stuff since I imagine it sells better.

Also, MST3K Season 12 is only six episodes, or are they Kickstarting it to fund more episodes per season?

It's only 6 episodes, which they claim is a good thing. They're doing a "pledge drive", but it's only to help pay for those 6 episodes, not any additional ones.

Volume 8 was one that had some rights issues, correct? I wonder how Shout will handle 9 and 10? Those two seemed to have more severe rights issues, since 9 seemed to go OOP almost immediately and 10 was re-released with a different movie.

An MST3K discusson board has a "likelyhood for release" list that says that both 9 and 10.5 are likely to be re-released:

http://forrestcrow.proboards.com/thr...y-release-list
Volume 9 -
[Rhino went to the wrong party to license WOMEN OF THE PREHISTORIC PLANET (they should have gone to Wade Williams). Wade also owns SINISTER URGE now.]

Volume 10.5 -
[TEENAGE STRANGLER should be with Creative Film Enterprises/Norman Senfeld. GIANT SPIDER INVASION is with VCI, who licensed GORGO to SF.]
Wade Williams has been willing to license out all the movies he owns for MST3K releases except Rocketship X-M, which he has a sentimental attachment to. He licensed THE DEAD TALK BACK for Vol 8.

Rifftrax Live Krull is tonight. Haven’t seen the film in years, but might pull out my DVD and watch it straight first. Do you all do that sometimes?

I thought they were hilarious tonight, much better than the unriffed experience earlier today.

Re: Official MST3K / Rifftrax / Cinematic Titanic DVD Thread

This was my first Rifftrax and it was hilarious. I loved Krull as a kid but I feel like it's going to be hard to enjoy without the commentary now. I might have to make this a regular event.

Thanks! I had to miss this one and the encore because I'm recovering from surgery. Hopefully, this is one they have the rights to sell as a VOD, so I can catch it later.

It's weird that they're charging for one of their songs this time. Usually they just throw that in as a bonus goodie.

They don’t. They announced in the Kickstarter that they wouldn’t be able to get the rights, so they’ll be recording an MP3 riff for it.

Aw, nuts. I contributed to the Kickstarter, but must've missed that. Oh, well. At least there'll be a studio version. There's only a few of the live shows that I've missed entirely.
