Re: Official MST3K / Rifftrax / Cinematic Titanic DVD Thread

Copied and pasted from the Satellite News site:

The episodes for Vol. XXVIII will be:
111- MOON ZERO TWO
422- THE DAY THE EARTH FROZE (with short: HERE COMES THE CIRCUS)
802- THE LEECH WOMAN
909- GORGO
There will also be a bonus disc with 512- “Mitchell” and 513- “The Brain That Wouldn’t Die.”

Info on bonus features to come.

Re: Official MST3K / Rifftrax / Cinematic Titanic DVD Thread

Surely Mitchell and TBTWD aren't a bonus disc with the box but are just single disc releases of those eps?

Seems excessive, but I suppose it would help me save space by selling off my singles of those two eps.

Also, does anyone know if Shout! ever has coupon codes for ordering off their website? I want to order Vol 27, but I hate paying MSRP.

I'm guessing they'll be a website-exclusive like the serial discs on Vols 25 and 27. The serial discs come in a separate slim-DVD case.

I don't think they have coupon codes, but they occasionally have sales. Of course, it's anyone's guess if Vol 27 will be included in a sale, or when the next sale will be. They're pretty much using the bonus discs as leverage to make you pay MSRP.

I wish they put out set that were just Joel (ugh...) and just Mike. That way, I wouldn't have to buy crap just to get one or maybe two Mike episodes.

Well, part of it depends more on what titles they can get the rights to, and when. However, I also suspect that they know some fans have a preference, and make sure the sets have a mix so that nobody can completely skip a given set because they don't like the hosts, or season, etc.

I prefer Joel over Mike, but I honestly don't care.

When it comes to the mad scientists, though...I'd prefer the box set to be predominantly Dr Forrester and tv's Frank.

Re: Official MST3K / Rifftrax / Cinematic Titanic DVD Thread

Coming in late to the series when it was already on Scifi, I should probably have a preference for Mike, but to be honest I only ever caught a handful of eps on TV. The majority of my viewings have been via DVD and because of the nature of the releases over the years, I watched what was available, no matter who the host was.

Yeah, I never got the Joel vs Mike thing. They both have their strengths and weaknesses, and they both have a different relationship with the bots.

Joel is the sleepy - sometimes stoned - irresponsible dad and Mike is their lunkhead older brother.

To me, the Bots relate to Joel like he's their beloved father, so they are obedient to what he asks, seek advice from him, etc.

But the Bots treat Mike like some inept babysitter who was left with them while their dad's away, so they don't respect him and they play pranks on him, while never really listening to anything he tells them.

Re: Official MST3K / Rifftrax / Cinematic Titanic DVD Thread

Happening soon in Atlanta...

Cineprov! ( link ) is a local live show in Atlanta a lot like MST3K (or CT or RT) with people riffing on a movie while it's playing. At it, the riffers sit in the front row of a small theater with wireless microphones and then the audience sits anywhere else.

It's a damn fun show! (Of course, the price of the special show with Joel is substantially higher than the normal weekly price to go.)

Cool, thanks. Looks like the sale is through August 10.

Could be an even better deal with the Amazon coupons in this thread.

Re: Official MST3K / Rifftrax / Cinematic Titanic DVD Thread

I have quite a few gaps in my collection, so this sale is very welcome. But it could get costly for me. Ha. For now I just ordered XXVI and MST3K vs. Gamera. (The latter is temporarily out of stock.)

Re: Official MST3K / Rifftrax / Cinematic Titanic DVD Thread

I decided during Rhino's run to always buy these as soon as they were available (after paying a premium for a few Rhino sets), but it doesn't seem like Shout! is going to have the same OOP issues that Rhino did. I need to save myself some money and wait for the price drops on these.

Re: Official MST3K / Rifftrax / Cinematic Titanic DVD Thread

Does anyone know if the Mitchell and the Brain That Wouldn't Die disc is a shout exclusive or is it included in the retail packaging?

It appears that the bonus disc is included in the retail packaging. The Facebook page mentions that the tin has 6 films:
https://www.facebook.com/mysteryscie...65911896789542

This announcement shows that the tin will have 5 discs, with Mitchell and The Brain That Wouldn’t Die both on the 5th disc:
http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Mys...iversary/18797

Amazon mentions the bonus disc:
http://www.amazon.com/Mystery-Scienc.../dp/B00EALTWRC

Ordering from Shout will get you the tin 2 weeks early though:

Thanks. Of course, because of the vacation, I won't be around to post the new deal of the day next week.
