Added Psycho II and III to my to-watch list as well. Not sure if this has been covered before, but do Godzilla films count?

I wanted to suggest Psycho II (Richard Franklin, 1983) for the list of 31. I've always thought it to be a daring and satifying sequel to Hitchcock's film. It was the film that really got me into slashers, too, and it was released when that subgenre was at an all-time high. People seem to dismiss or forget the Psycho sequels, but I enjoyed them all. This one stands out because of its creepy, sympathetic portrayal by Perkins. I really think it will be a treat for those who've not seen it to discuss. That's why I'm pitching it for this challenge.

Indie
I support this pick. Psycho II has always been a favorite of mine. I think this one is the best out of the whole series. This is a movie that I have used in the horror challenges before, and will use again this time also.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 5th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

I watched 101 in 2007, then somehow missed out on the challenge last year. But I am getting pretty excited for it this year. I have absolutely nothing going on. Happily unemployed, and am going to at least try to break my 2007 record. Been setting up the netflix queue, and stacking up stuff from my currently boxed up collection.

2007: Black Christmas (2006)
2008: Pet Sematary (1989)

Looking at that list I guess I should start with a film from the 2000s, since apparently I went from 05 to 84 to 06 to 89...
Black Sheep ('07)?

I broke the '80s theme cycle last year:

2005 - The Dead Next Door ('89)
2006 - The Evil Dead ('81)
2007 - Night of the Comet ('84)
2008 - Inside ('07)

2009 - Martyrs ('08) ??

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 5th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

No rhyme or reason...

2006 - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre ('03)
2007 - Drew's Famous Ghoul Log... but the first actual movie I watched was Fright Night ('85) on Oct 2.
2008 - Nosferatu ('22)... and that was Oct 6. Then I didn't watch an actual movie until Oct. 12. But I did watch The Nightmare Before Christmas near the end of September so I was obviously excited to start. Can't remember specifics, but life was pretty hectic last October.

So, my goal this year is to start ON TIME, at least watch more than I have in the past, and to participate more in the 31 Films subset thread(s).

We shall see... We shall see.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 5th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

I looked over my past participation scores and threads. Last year I only ended up with 12 films and was really busy. My thread was pathetic and void of comments.

In 2006 I only saw 10 films, but had a nice rating and review system going. It was also a pretty busy year. This year, my 3rd attempt, my goal is to see at least 50 films and rate and review them all (but I'm aiming for more). I'm not so busy this time, so I should be able to better those scores easily.

My first film in 2006 was the obscure little '80s film The Curse. Last year it was the indie film Right at Your Door.

Another personal goal this year is to watched almost exclusively films that I haven't seen before (I will only break this rule if there are subset titles that come up and I have quick access to). My unwatched pile is heavy, and there are some theatrical release coming up that I really want to check out.

Paging Trevor...

Alright, and correct me if I'm wrong, this is what have so far regarding the 31 days list:

Numes - Cube
Chad - Nightmare Castle
Trevor - Poltergeist(?)
riotinmyskull - The Manitou
Larry C. - ?
smashthesymbols - ?
Mister Peepers - The Nanny
cardsfan111 - Shaun of the Dead
Darth Maher - Behind The Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon
clckworang - The Signal
LickTheABCs - Baby Blues
Dardgod - Delamorte Delamore (aka "Cemetery Man")
Dick Laurent - Death Bed: The Bed That Eats
indiephantom - Psycho II (confirmed participant?)

That leaves 16 spots open (and 2 undecided) excluding the 31st. I'm not trying to rush anyone here, but we do need to finish this fairly soon so advance preparations can be made for any possible purchases, Netflix queue additions and whatnot.

Any more willing volunteers with picks that plan on joining in on the 31 Days Subset discussion?

Do you mean the Hammer Nanny, with Bette Davis? If so, that's an excellent choice. I'd like to submit Alligator.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 5th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

I know I already made a selection for the 31 films/days subset, but I'll offer a suggestion for anyone who doesn't know what to choose.

Let the Right One In - I've never seen it, but just purchased it from the gohastings.com sale based on this challenge and the fact that several DVD Talkers were raving about it.

I'm watching it either way, but figured I'd throw it out there. Forgive me if it seems like I'm trying to slide in an extra pick.

Sounds good, let's put Let the Right One In on the list. A recent classic, best movie of 2008.

I would pick a movie for discussion but with me being in College I can't be sure of what days i'll be available to participate in the discussion.

Well since we need nominations I'll go ahead and throw a vote for Spider Baby to be one of the days.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 5th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

Ok, looking over that list I feel like we need a few more "mainstream" movies in there so we can get more people participating. I only see three on that list I'll be able to take part in, unless I start trying to buy a bunch before the challenge.

So with that in mind, how about adding another classic? The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Are there certain days of the week you're likely free? We'll put your movie on one of those days.

Yes. As I said earlier, and last year, it is really best to pick mainstream films. Even with pretty much all mainstream films last year we often had little discussion. Pick something rare and you risk talking to yourself in your movie's thread.

Chad, any chance of adding a blurb in one of your first posts for those that want to do an xbox netflix party? Unless someone wants to beat me to it, I was going to make a metatag later on tonight or tomorrow.

For those that don't know what a metatag is, it's making an on the xbox that you send friend requests to. There's a feature on xbox live that lets you see a friend's friend list. If people wanted to join, they'd still need to post their gamertag in this thread or PM it to me so I know they're part of the challenge and not just some random hobo.

This way we have an easy way to organize whoever wants to do some horror parties/marathons for the challenge.

I think I might start with a Friday the 13th marathon, haven't done that yet. Though that will break my tradition of going 80s, 00s and back and forth.

Exactly my situation. I'd love to participate in the 31 Days subset, but my time is going to be very scattered so I'm going to have to miss out. I'll have graduated by next year so maybe then.

Sure, but I don't entirely understand what you're asking. Once you do that is there a link you'll want me to include? Or are you just asking for me to direct people to post their gamertags or PM you?

Does anyone have an opinion of the movie "Teeth" that came out a few years ago?

I've never seen it, but the premise sounds... interesting.
