Part of the modern bias is because we did lots the classics last year, and precluded them from this year.

So how about if I make Vampyr the choice for the 7th, and we leave the 25th open until mid month? That way, if any theater flick is catching our fancy, or if a new release disc like The Stepfather intrigues a bunch of us, we have an open day. But barring those, we can pick another classic.

If you're still looking for another movie to place, might I suggest this classic http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092112/

Sounds good to me. Although it's really a shame there's not more in the way of genre films being released theatrically to choose from.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 5th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

Looks pretty full, but one of those public domain films on Youtube would be also something to throw in. I'm planning on watching a few of those...I've never seen the original Little Shop of Horrors, but that's still '60s. I'll definitely be checking that one in October.

Just caught Jennifer's Body by the way. Thought it was okay. The dialogue gets irritating fast. There's NO NUDITY which is a shame...especially when last week's Sorority Row had lots, and was a much more entertaining film (although nothing like the original which is even more fun). There are some darkly funny moments and some creepy locations (abandoned indoor swimming pool is quite cool). The film trips over its own need to be clever. It's trying to be a bit like Heathers and a bit like Teeth, but both of those are better, IMO. Not a bad flick for a rental down the road and maybe for next year's challenge. But I don't think it's worth seeing in theatres. I really did like Rob Zombie's Halloween II though, and that's at the cheapies now...so, there's some stuff in theatres that I think is worth seeing, just nothing great.

Speaking of Rob Zombie, I'm going to check out a midnight screening tomorrow night of The Haunted World of El Superbeasto tomorrow. That looks promising, and I'll report back here with thoughts. The BD is coming out in a week or two, so another one that people could check out. Looks like a fun Halloween pick.

I've received confirmation from John Sinnett regarding the prize situation.

You may have already noticed on the first post that the mystery studio is Troma and they'll be providing 10 copies of the Paul Naschy film La orgía de los muertos ...The Hanging Woman for the giveaways:

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 5th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

I have a couple of questions. One is about the running times. What's the mininum length of time to qualify without being a wild card?

This will be my second time as part of the challenge. I noticed a lot of people label their first time viewings. Does that mean it's a movie they haven't already watched for a previous year's challenge? Or is it a movie that they're watching for the first time in their lives?

Netflix party update:

I can't host tonight so if someone else can do it, great. If not, does Sunday around 1:30 PST work?

edit: Reason being there was a huge power outage where I am and at one point 3 cities were all out. Now it's fine at my house but not where my wife works, so she's coming back home.

Lists thread is up! As is you didn't already know.

Promised someone with a subscription to this thread that I'd let 'em know in here so it'd show up in the subject line of their email. That obviously slipped my mind. Forgiveness, please!

We did away with the running times rule last year, so just use your own judgment. Obviously common sense dictates something that's 30 minutes or whatever isn't feature length. If you have a specific example feel free to bring it up in the discussion thread ...just don't linger on it.

I wanted to watch the animated Blood The Last Vampire before the live action remake comes out next month. It's barely over 45 minutes though. I was going to have it as a wild card but now I feel like I'd rather save those for THOH episodes.

Yeah I know I wasn't gonna let them put that on the list. I see you placed Ravenous Trevor thanks. Riot's suggestion of The Entity was great as well I could have gone with either one.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 5th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

This was discussed earlier for the expanded checklist. Chad, do you want to add it? Many will watch more than three, but even three will be a slight challenge for some, so iIthought making it four or more would be too exclusive.

Watch films in at least three formats (DVD, BD, HD DVD, Laserdisc, TV, online, UMD, theater, iPod, etc).
--- First format, (insert format), (insert title).
--- Second format, (insert format), (insert title).
--- Third format, (insert format), (insert title).

Edit to add: Also Chad, post #170 with the subset list is now complete (except for the "save this date" 25th).

Count it if you want. According to Netflix I watched it early last year but don't remember a damn thing about it. I rated it 3 stars so apparently it was a somewhat enjoyable experience for me.

Trust me, you'll still have a chance. There's 10 copies to give away, so I see no reason there can't be an extra random drawing or two for everyone participating instead of just those reaching the 100 mark. In fact, I'll probably end up adding a couple more prize categories.

Sure. And I'll add that as a results thread stat if enough people list their formats.

BTW, I currently have this checklist post from last year's thread linked on the first 2 pages and in the list thread. Do you want to update that post or possibly add a new one to this thread? Or should I just delete the links altogether?

I guess we can just just keep it as that post, and edit it as needed. Or would you rather have it in the current year? I'll add the format thing now.

Edit to add: Oops, nevermind. That old thread must be locked, as I can't edit my post. I'll make it a new post below.
