Might surprise me more if they actually showed ED2. I remember once at my now ex's apartment, we were flipping through the channels, and came across Army Of Darkness on one of the "My Network" stations. However, during the commercial bumpers, they referred to it as Evil Dead 2...

Just one thing I'd like to mention about last year. If multiple people send out prizes again, let's just make sure they are reliable. I was supposed to receive something last year and the user never responded to me after I sent my address. I never received anything in the mail or a reply when I sent a couple of subsequent messages.

It's not that big of a deal. After all, I didn't go into the challenge expecting to win a prize, but it was disappointing that one of my fellow DVDTalkers/challenge participants left me hanging like that.
Yeah, same here. He never sent me anything, either.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 5th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

Thanks Chad for all the work.

I'm in after a hiatus. September will be spent getting used to all these tv channels I now have (dish).

Here's to honesty, civility, some good discussions and abuse by family members who think most of us are insane for doing this challenge. I'm sure in my household that once they hear the music to Cannibal Holocaust they will start to feel nauseous.

I'm in. My goal is just to beat my last years total and of course indulge in as much horror as I can.

Chad, unless you want the discussion here, I'll start a separate thread to discuss and choose the 31 days subset.

The biggest issue, besides choosing the 29 optional films, is whether to stay with specific films or have "genre nights". While I was initially for the "genre nights", I'm thinking that we should stick to individual films. We're only going to have maybe 20 participants on any given night tops, and if we all watch different films, all we're going to do is have rambling one sided comments and ruin films for each other. With one set film, no one is going to enter that daily thread without knowing that they should have see the film already.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 5th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/3

Last year was my first year doing this challenge, and it completely obliterated my expectations. I am really looking forward to it this year. I have already got my list of movie options for this year and my spreadsheets ready (in fairness, I just did them at the same time I did my Criterion challenge list.)

The good news for October: I'll be in Florida for 4 days, the bad news: no horror movie viewing for 4 days!

And yes, Death Bed: The Bed that Eats is in my collection and ready to be watched!

I'm in also. I've done this every year and it's been great every year even though I already know before we get started that I will never win this. But that's not what it is about, it's about having a great time and enjoying the horror movies and talking with all of the other people who watch ( and love ) horror movies.

Nice... I did 102 last year for fun... never posted on here about it. Had a pretty decent list together.

This year, I've got quite a few movies I've never seen lying around... Including the Blind Dead collection that I've had for 4-5 years and never actually watched at all. Can't wait. Also, I'm gonna get to see The Monster Squad on the big screen sometime in Oct... should be a blast.

Chad,

I think we need a Horror Film Club, like the new Criterion Film Club. Something to keep us horror fans occupied and communicating with each other the other 11 months of the year.

I've almost started it a few times, but figured you should have the honor if you're so inclined. Plus, you'd be much better with all the pretty formatting and pictures and stuff.

I was just on the verge of sending you a PM. But yeah, either way is fine by me ...whatever's easiest for you.

I agree. And the addition of sub-genres into that thread would sort of defeat the purpose of having it separate from the main thread to begin with. Besides, if we deviated away from that original intended purpose, it'd require a name change and "31 Films & Sub-Genre Subset" (say that 5 times fast) just doesn't have the same ring.

Speaking of genre specific days, there's an idea I had from a couple challenges back that was put on the back burner for whatever reason. I'll bring it up later when not rushed for time.

They've already aired it before last May. It's still on my DVR.

One more vote for keeping the 31 Films as individual films and not genres. Doing genres would defeat the purpose entirely.

Yep, that's just what I said at the end of last year, and I stick to that.

We might as well just do it here then. In fact, since my new plan is to have separate threads for each of the 31 days subset, we don't even really need a separate thread for the subset discussion, right? We can just do everything here. Decide how to pick them, and provide links to the discussion threads in the intro posts and daily as they come up. Right?

So, besides the original Halloween on the 31st and Friday the 13th on the 13th, I'm open to anything on choosing the films. We could have the top finishers from last year do it again, and/or polls/debate. Plus, iirc, someone from last year was late getting their choice in and was promised a pick this year. Was it Viewaskewbian?

Yeah, I was thinking that genre-specific days could be something thrown into the main challenge as an option.

Ok guys I'm a huge horror buff but have never done this before. I read Chad's OP and call me stupid but I'm a bit confused. Am I right to assume I can pick any 100 horror titles I've never watched before?

I will go and look at last year's format. Any help would be great!

It's more of a watch as many horror movie's you can in a month. If you think 100 is overkill, watch 50. It doesn't need to be all never-before-seen titles either. Each year I watch Halloween, The Shining and The Exorcist.

All you need to do is list the titles you watch, give a little review, make it pretty and voilą that's it.

It's a shit-ton of fun.

You can pick any film, whether you've seen it or not. And you can watch as many as you want, more or less than 100. It's mainly just for the fun of it. The point is just to watch horror films.
