Woodstock 4 Disc DVD Full Screen Frame ?
This question is specifically about the UK edition, but I SUSPECT the USA edition is the same:
Disc 3 (bonus performances) is in full screen, but with a black bar frame around the ENTIRE full screen that shrinks the picture by (I'd guess) around 15-20%. The "frame" appears to be even/equal on all 4 sides. Can anyone tell me WHY in the world they'd do this? Is it to make FS look better on WS sets, or..........?
It doesn't appear to me to be aspect ratio correction like we sometimes see with silent films; again at least not for FS. I have a full screen crt television, & I find it really irritating, although the quality is otherwise excellent..

Thanks for the link, but it didn't answer my question. Are you suggesting I repost the ? in that thread?

I think you should ask in that other thread. At least you'll get comments from people who are familiar with the new release (so you can compare) and possibly know about the old release.
Is it just that the transfer is not anamorphic?

I'm not a hi def guy at all; the best way I can describe it is that it's full screen, but with a square black bar frame around it which in effect shrinks the picture without changing the aspect ratio at all.

That may be the aspect ratio of the cameras they used. In one of the special features they talk in detail about the handheld cameras they used and how it was blown up to 70mm(I believe) for the final film. The movie was shot fullscreen. The split screen scenes is just two camera shots side by side in the aspect ratio it was shot. The bonus performances are all fullscreen because they were never blown up for theatrical release.
