House On Sorority Row: 25th Anniversary Edition--11/24/09

Don't know if this has been posted yet but Liberation Entertainment will be re-releasing House On Sorority Row on 11/24/09.

Missed this when it was in-print and never wanted to pull the $50-60+ trigger on OOP copies since.

This was posted in another thread, I'm not sure which one, but when I found out I sold my copy of it right away on eBay and got $40 for it!

i always find these posts so funny, that people have no problem deceiving buyers into buying old releases, when the seller knows that the item is being re-released.

I don't see a problem in it. If someone wants the movie, especially a genre film like this, you think they might know a little bit about the market and upcoming releases.

I agree

Though I find it silly when sellers on Ebay list genre titles as "OOP RARE HTF", when it is OOP because a better version is coming out.

As with anything you buy, I think it's good to do some research before plopping down a bunch of cash on something like a DVD. As SethDLH mentioned, most genre fans are very well informed about the specs of their releases as well as ones coming out in the future.

If someone isn't doing their research and plops down $60 for House On Sorority Row when there is a re-release, or $30-40 on Silent Night Deadly Night when all they have to do is dig the bargain bin at their local Mom & Pop Shop, that is their decision.

I do it all the time, I did it with Nightmare Before Christmas and Sleeping Beauty, though I waited too long on Snow White. It's all supply and demand. Grab the opportunity when you have the chance!

I think it's kind of sleazy myself, and only ever sell items at the price that it will cost me to "upgrade". It's a middle ground that I'm comfortable with.

Re: House On Sorority Row: 25th Anniversary Edition--11/24/09

i don't need money bad enough that i have to try and con someone.

looking at recent auctions for this item- you'll see things like RARE, OOP, NO LONGER MANUFACTURED

going by the # of auctions for it before disc was announced, and ones presently, you can tell most people know, and are trying to unload it.

on a sidenote. I have sold items in past that were announced a better edition, not more than 2 months after i listed them, but have never have had the knowledge beforehand. ( Two Lane blacktop- i sold the Tin, about a month before the Criterion was listed, My So-called Life i sold boxset about 3 months before news spread about a re-release)

It's not sleazy, it's business, someone has to have the upper hand.

I understand what you are saying, kbarkerok. Life sucks and there are way too many lead ins to that sentiment. But I actually agree with you, at least to a point.

When I know I'm in possession of a "valuable" release that I'm interested in getting rid of I generally list the starting price at slightly above reasonable levels. For example ...I had three copies of a title that went OOP at the beginning of the summer. Title is Savage Streets. I listed it on eBay for $20 a piece. When in print it could have been purchased for $15. Two copies went for $40 ...but not because of me. And the last I kept. I could have gone higher and fetched the price I wanted ...buy like you, I don't like ripping people off.

But the problem is when there are only a handful of sellers pushing OOP releases at ridiculous prices in order to "rip people off". Supply and demand, right? That's the way of the world. The only issue I have with this is simple ....a seller could let market dictate pricing and like myself, sell more highly demanded items at a lower price point. But that's not usually the case. I can circumvent this entire process but that's another story and one that will not be divulged on this site (out of respect for its wishes). But for those without "alternatives" they are essentially fucked. And it's an unfortunate shell game.

But for those that fall prey to elevated prices because they are ignorant of the fact that a re-release is around the corner ...well, in simple terms ...it's their own damn fault, period.

This is the one good thing that sometimes come of remakes: the original often gets an overdue rerelease.

Re: House On Sorority Row: 25th Anniversary Edition--11/24/09

To be honest I didn't actually rip anyone off. I put my copy of House on Sorority Row on eBay starting at $5 and it shot up to $40, so that wasn't on me. It was the person who bid and paid that much for it that did that.

Re: House On Sorority Row: 25th Anniversary Edition--11/24/09

I have absolutely no problem with trying to sell a DVD (or anything else) for as much as possible. Hell, one of the reasons I visit this site almost every day is to get news about new releases and re-releases. When I see an OOP disc is getting a new (and hopefully better) release, I (usually) try to sell the old version (if I have it) for AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. I don't think it's wrong at all and I lose no sleep over doing it. I then use that money to get the new version and hopefully some other titles, as well. Way more often is the case that I lose money selling a movie when the "new, super, improved, special" edition comes out. Feel free to click on the link to my collection in my signature and take a guess as to how much money I've spent on this "hobby". If I have a chance to actually defray some of that cost, you better believe I'm going to take it.

Still no specs for this? I'm getting ready to sell off my old copy as well, but it would be nice to know if I'm actually upgrading the disc or not :P

I was curious about the specs as well.

Copies of the original release seem to dropping a little bit, so if the new disc isn't so great, I'd like to pick up a copy of the original.
