cheap quality dvd discs

I bought Catch Me If You Can and the OC season 2 and the discs were different. They were just plain discs with black writing on it. I had owned the oc season 1 and catch me if u can before (it broke) and they had the normal color picture print thing on them. why were they different? im kind of annoyed

For the most part, color ink on discs went the way of the inserts...
As far as actual quality of the discs, I'd be curious myself if the studios are using cheaper discs - I have heard that Warner Bros uses DVD R's for their Warner Archives (Which has held me back from buying "Soldier In The Rain" (Steve McQueen & Jackie Gleason) Well, that and the fact that they charge $19.99 a pop and about $5 shipping & handling

This used to bother me but I don't care what the studios do anymore with their pressings. What I can tell you is that movie studios that used to do nice disc art have abandoned the idea for the last few years now. I know Paramount has pissed buyers off with the silver printed discs when the original pressings had disc art. This seems to be the case with the new black text printed on, they are getting even cheaper now.

Advice to collectors, if you can keep the original pressings since most new and sealed copys today would not sport the disc art you want or inserts.

Yep, they SURE know how to make the legitimate product look more desirable than bootlegs! Let's not forget the 2-sided discs with NO printing whatsoever on side 2!

Yeah, I've noticed Warner Bros. just uses black ink on a silver thermal print disc.

For me, having the fancy silk-screened or off-set print discs isn't really that important.

I had an issue with one of the SNL Best-Of discs I bought last year:

Studios just don't care. The label on my copy of that is seriously something you could've printed out with a regular inkjet printer. It looks like shit.

It's all about cutting production costs.
