Pixar's "Up" (11/10/09)
from ultimate disney:
August 6, 2009 - Disney has informed retailers of the four home video releases in which they'll make Pixar's Up available on November 10th. A single-disc standard DVD ($29.99 SRP) will contain the film plus theatrical short Partly Cloudy and all-new Dug's Special Mission. A 2-Disc Deluxe DVD ($39.99 SRP) will add an audio commentary by director Pete Docter, the documentary "Adventure is Out There" on the filmmakers' research journey to South America, "The Many Endings of Muntz" (an alternate ending of sorts), and a digital copy. Blu-ray fans get double the disc count with a 4-Disc Combo Pack ($45.99 SRP) that adds Cine-Explore with BonusView, Global Guardian Badge and Geography games, 8 documentaries, and BD-Live to the Deluxe DVD and digital copy platters. Finally, those with income to spare might be interested in the Luxo Jr. Premium Pack ($199.99 SRP) which includes a collectible lamp modeled after Pixar's bouncy short star that is designed to hold a complete Pixar Blu-ray collection.

I might go all out and get the Luxo Jr. Premium Pack (which I assume has the Blu-Ray version), but, I don't see how it will be able to hold the complete Pixar collection, judging from the pictures posted at UltimateDisney.com.

Need a Twix bar? To each their own. Collectors will love to get their hands on that DESK LAMP, while others will be able to just enjoy the movie itself! What's the big deal? No reason to get all upset.

The big deal is that there is NO way that lamp is worth $160. I could buy that for like $15 at Ikea.

$160 is cheaper than a real luxo lamp
I've been kicking around the idea of buying a new DVD player as it is (I lost my remote for the one I currently have, and it's beginning to annoy the fire out of me, so much so I am thinking of just buying a new one all together), and while I never will replace all my DVDs with Blu-Ray (I have WAY too many to be able to afford that) I have no problem holding off on certain titles until I get a new player.
So...somewhat off topic...any good, reasonably priced region free Blu-Ray players out there?

So here's my question then...actually a few...
1) Does that edition then have the ability to play the bonus features in DVD format?
2) Are those releases "flippers?"
3) Do the DVD editions on those have the scratch proofing on the surface of the disc? (I really want to know this one!)

How could they!!!!
Since I am buying the Blu-Ray I really do not mind.

I will end up having to pay more then I normal do for blu-rays to get this, being disney related I am just not going to find it for $15.00, $20.00 would be nice at some point.

No. it's just a copy of the 1 Disc DVD with the shorts and commentary.
2) Are those releases "flippers?"
no. it's a 2 disc Blu-ray, 1 disc DVD and 1 disc for the digital copy.
3) Do the DVD editions on those have the scratch proofing on the surface of the disc? (I really want to know this one!)
nope, it's just a standard DVD.

I really think the 3-D for the home video releases SUCKS. Digital 3-D in the theaters is AWESOME, but they are still using 50 year old technology for the home video releases. Unless you have a projector, I can't see how the 3-D could ever compare to how great it looked in the theater. They can keep their 1950's blue and red (or green and magenta) 3-D.

I just glad they're going back to making the "Super Genius!" editions for regular DVD again. I still haven't bought the barebones versions of Cars or Ratatouille.

While the 2 disc deluxe DVD is an improvement over their releases of the two you mentioned, I wouldn't exactly say they're making "Super Genius" editions on regular DVD again, when you consider how it will be lacking a lot of the extra bonus features the Blu-ray is getting....the BD releases are really now what the true "Super Genius" editions are....

I don't yet own a Blu-Ray player, but I guess I'll be getting one in the future, so I'll probably take advantage of any first-week deals there are and buy the 4-disc Blu-Ray version. Is it sad that "Observe & Report" will be the movie that made me finally consider that I should start buying Blu-Rays? Don't answer that.

Man, I'm excited for this release. I've been thinking about upgrading to Blu-Ray for a while, and that awesome-sounding Combo Pack might put me over the top
