The Game-David Fincher - Anyone out there know anything about a better version?

Anyone out there know anything about a better version of this movie than the old 2002 DVD "flipper" release? I remember a Criterion laserdisc release that had special features, commentary.....some good stuff. This is a movie that seems to cry out for a new release...always thought it was kinda overlooked......but I thought it was a pretty good film.
Anyone?

Guess what - that "2002" release was merely a repackaging of a 1998 DVD. It's worse than you think.

If you want the Criterion extras, just import the European Region 2 or the Asian Region 3. It has it all on there and you can get it for quite cheap now.

Does anyone else find it kind of odd that this is the only Fincher film that dosn't have a loaded DVD?

Re: The Game-David Fincher - Anyone out there know anything about a better version?

Oddly, Universal released the special edtion of the Game on DVD with nearly all of the extras from the Crtierion laserdisc in the UK, Franch, Germany, Australia, and Hong Kong but on DVD only. However, something got lost in transation for the HD DVD and the internatonal releases of the HD DVD were simply localized versions of the US release.

So, if you can get a multi-region DVD player (which isn't too hard these days), you can buy the import with extras and a 16x9 transfer of the film.

It's possible that since Criterion doesn't release discs internationally, they were agreeable to license the extras to Universal for those versions. I guess they decided to only allow them for DVD, or perhaps the lack of region coding on HD DVD had something to do with it.

Re: The Game-David Fincher - Anyone out there know anything about a better version?

The HD-DVD is the best version available(in terms of the movie, not the extras). But the transfer is one of the weakest I've seen on either HD-DVD or Blu-ray and there's no lossless audio.

I recently got rid of the Criterion LD, but the extras on it were really good, aside from the crappy alternate ending. Even the teaser and trailer had audio commentaries.

Very strange indeed. Every other one of his films seems to have a multi disc loaded dvd. even , as someone mentioned, Panic Room.

Re: The Game-David Fincher - Anyone out there know anything about a better version?

Mod note: This question seems to pop up every year or so and usually brings about a lot of discussion that either doesn't really go anywhere or for some reason devolves into a bitch fest about studios and international v domestic releases and usually contains a ton of rumors. Since it looks like the OP may be in violation of some of the forum rules on multiple accounts it's potentially the case they were just trolling/trying to stir things up again. So I'm closing this for now. Hopefully there will be some legit news at some point at which point we can have a real thread about it.
