observe and report - september 22nd, 2009
dvdactive just announced the release of the seth rogan comedy:
http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releas...nd-report.html if i compare the dvd to the bluray it makes me furious again! NONE of the extras are on the dvd. warner is really the worst label when it comes to forcing bluray down the consumers`throats! most turnover still comes from dvd, but these customers are second rate in terms of warner release policy..... |
Re: observe and report - september 22nd, 2009
blu for me
shitty artwork. |
Re: observe and report - september 22nd, 2009
I bet this title is going to generate a lot of anger, but even if I didn't have a Blu-Ray player, I don't feel like it's worth getting particularly worked up over. I still can't grasp the mentality that someone would refuse to want to adapt to Blu-Ray sometime in the future when it's cost-effective, and if that's not the case, then eventually you'll be able to see these extras on BD. Admittedly, my mild disinterest is probably because I rarely see great DVD extras anymore, but whatever.
That said, I do think if this will be the norm, that Warner should pioneer a new, lower introductory price point for discs like this. If O&R was $9.99 on release day on DVD, that'd be great. And to be fair, in this case, there really isn't any reason for them not to have included the deleted scenes and gag reel on the SD-DVD. The cover is good. |
Re: observe and report - september 22nd, 2009
As a person who likes bonus materials, and not upgraded to bluray, I don't like this idea that Warner Brothers has.
|
Re: observe and report - september 22nd, 2009
Not planning on upgrading to Blu and annoyed by this trend.
Blu may be affordable now, but with my 720p television I'd rather spend $200 on new DVD titles for my collection than on a piece of hardware. |

The cover is good. Just like I understand when Blu owners were pissed early on when some DVDs had exclusive extras. |
Re: observe and report - september 22nd, 2009
Damn, no extras on standard? Oh well, I'm still buying at some point, because I loved this one.
|
Re: observe and report - september 22nd, 2009
I know it pisses people off, but I like when studios load a blu-ray with exclusives - we're already paying more to buy these movies, why not get premium content. It's about fucking time this movie was announced, loved it at the theatre and definitely buying the blu-ray.

Re: observe and report - september 22nd, 2009
uhhh, hello...the DVD "Includes Both Widescreen and Full-Screen Formats On One Disc"!! the blu-ray can't say that! no extras my ass.
|
Re: observe and report - september 22nd, 2009
Definitely in for the Blu-ray.

Like the good old days where "menus" were listed as extras. |
Re: observe and report - september 22nd, 2009
I think this is a movie without a great visual "panache", so even for people with a bluray player, if the price difference is $5-$10, an upconverted 480p dvd might be preferable to the bluray. So I'm guessing that the exclusive extras are a means to get those fence-sitters (like me) to fall over into the bluray side.

Re: observe and report - september 22nd, 2009
FUCK THIS SHIT. FUCK YOU WB.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IM glad i didnt support this in theaters and glad it bombed. Anyone know how I can go about complaining about this to WB? i need to know from them why they feel they can pull this kinda disgusting shit. I hope whose ever decision this was to give the Blu-ray exclusive special features dies in the most torturous way imaginable. I may rent the dvd from Netflix. But I swear on my life that that will be the extent of my involvement with this title. This is horrendous what they are doing to 90+% of the home video audience. |
Re: observe and report - september 22nd, 2009
Fucking finally! Been wanting this one for a while now. Can't wait to get the BD.
|
Re: observe and report - september 22nd, 2009
I'll rent the BD-- doesn't seem like a smart blind-buy.
|
Re: observe and report - september 22nd, 2009
I'm kinda glad they didn't go with the whole "unrated" cut. I'm getting really tired of those.
Fullscreen you say? SCORE! |

Re: observe and report - september 22nd, 2009
Cant say I am surprised by the lack of extras on the dvd. Can't say I really care though either. I never got around to seeing this in the theaters, but I will most likely get it on dvd at some point. When it gets cheap enough.

Re: observe and report - september 22nd, 2009
It's about freakin' time. I'll take 1 BD, please.

Re: observe and report - september 22nd, 2009
i don`t mind more extras on bluray, but at least release a standard dvd special edition then, so that the consumer has a choice.
instead they waist the disc space with a full screen copy. not that anyone likes those fragile warner flipper discs anyhow! i mean this is a step back to about ten years ago! probably 90% of the turnover comes from standard dvd sales and i don`t think anybody will switch to bluray just for a few extras on the dvd! thats the only thing that really makes me furious about warner`s new policy, that they just don`t respect their core customer base that way! its like they are trying to make the standard dvd presentations shittier and shittier on purpose, just so people switch formats. why would they even care if people buy standard dvd or bluray, as long as the money stays in the company and they are getting the turnover!? i am sure with this forcefull policy they will piss several people off, who will deliberately not purchase such titles anymore, although they may have intended originally! i hope this really backfires on warner! in an already weak economy you should meet clients` wishes twice as much just to keep the same amount of business! warner titles likek grand torino and he`s just not that into you were already dropped to 10 dollars like 2 weeks after their release! to lose the profit margin so quickly certainly can`t be in the companies interest! although, honestly speaking, these complete barebone releases certainly are not worth more then 10 dollars on release day anyhow!! |
