How Do You Organize an "Adult" DVD?

Not my intent to ruffle any feathers here, just curious how everyone else handles the sticky subject of adult-oriented DVD's.

I'm torn between my need to display my films proudly as the collector I am, and the taboo of hiding those films under the bed...

I do have kids (teen boys) in my house, so that is always a concern. My wife and I love Jess Franco and Jean Rollin, who are clearly not family matter, but also not just straight film-for-pleasure. I have the DVD cases on the shelf, but the DVD's themselves are stashed away where curious hands won't find them. Same with some David Lynch movies, Larry Clark, and Christina Lindberg. But as a couple we get a kick out of watching Misty Mundae and Sasha Grey as well. I don't mind that anyone knows I own some of those films, but is it too much to have just the cases on the shelf? When is it okay to have A Clockwork Orange on display, as opposed to Erotic Werewolf in London?

Curious what you think.
(like how I never used the dreaded "P" word?)

Re: How Do You Organize an "Adult" DVD?

I've got a few adult titles in my collection. For the moment, they're sprinkled in with my regular collection on the shelves. When my son gets to be a bit older (he's only 6 now), I'll pull them and stash them somewhere private.

We keep ours in a separate video cabinet stashed in the bedroom closet.

I keep the cases stashed in a plain box and the actual discs in a wallet in my closet.

Re: How Do You Organize an "Adult" DVD?

I don't have any "P" on dvd...i don't like the way they fast forward.

But the "erotic" stuff I have (Franco, D'Amato, etc.) I keep on the shelf with all the others. But that could change as my daughter gets older...she's only 3 now so I got some time.

Re: How Do You Organize an "Adult" DVD?

We have them in drawer in mine and my wife's bedroom. It's mostly so that family and friends don't see it, I guess. I do have two girls, but the oldest one is almost four, so that's not really a concern yet. Of course, I have lots more than movies that are labeled 'adult' to worry about, especially since I like so much cheesy horror, including stuff by Troma

Do you have an adult section, or do you have say, Mummy Raider (Misty Mundae) in the same category as Tomb Raider (the real movie)? I thought about making an "Erotic" or "Exploitation" category.

My girlfriend and I don't have any kids to hide them from, so our 200 or so hardcore XXX porn DVDs just go on the top shelf.

All softcore (not even sure if I have anything that qualifies as softcore), R/NC-17/unrated, and mainstream DVDs (including Caligula) just go in with the regular collection.

Re: How Do You Organize an "Adult" DVD?

I once bought a porn DVD that came with a fake DVD label that you could use. Something like "Richard Llinkdfachter's books on tape series, effective micro managerial strategies in the modern manufacturing industry". And I just made copies and used it for my porn collection. Never had a large DVD/Tape porn collection though. Now I've done away with them all and the adult library is on my PC.

Pun intended?

The few actual DVDs we own are stashed in the bedroom.

The kind of stuff you guys are talking about I leave on the shelf but actual porn I keep in a drawer (no kids yet but when I do they can watch whatever they want, I did and I love the way I turned out).

Re: How Do You Organize an "Adult" DVD?

I keep mine on the shelf with everything else- I have no shame. One time I was gone for a few days and had my dad come over to feed my cat, so I him 'em then, but don't care if anyone else sees them. My parents are "against" porn even though I doubt they've even seen very much- it would've been cool to have parents who actually watched it!

I think a MORE important question is whether you separate theatrical movies from made-for-video stuff? Porn movies haven't been distributed on 35mm film since the 80s (remaining theaters used video projectors after that), so I keep my "golden age" stuff with the rest of my regular movies, and the video stuff with other things that were made for home video or cable but never had a theatrical release.

Re: How Do You Organize an "Adult" DVD?

I haven't got any yet but I plan on getting some "Girls Gone Wild" I will probably put in my drawer instead of my shelf. I have a hard time as it is -- I need to find a way to lock up my DVDs because my sister drops by and takes a couple DVDs of mine while I am at work.

But no porn yet. I want to buy more DVDs and Blu-Ray so when they go on the shelf they won't stick out as much.

Re: How Do You Organize an "Adult" DVD?

Hypothetically, if i did own any, they would be in a box, in a plastic bag, inside of a large duffel bag, in a safe, in the back of a closet, in a secret chamber that can only be accessed by using a button hidden in a fake bust of Shakespeare and pulling back on his head. If i did indeed own any. allegedly.

Seen some clips, thanks to my friends. Never been interested in them. I don't feel nothing off of naked women on the TV unless those naked women are in my room doing whatever they're doing, in the physical sense.

I'd say keep them wherever you usually "take care of business", unless you're watching them for the stories.

Re: How Do You Organize an "Adult" DVD?

I take the inserts (heh-heh!) out and place them in a sealed box, throw out the cases, and stick the discs on a spindle. Most pornos have explicit covers, while the discs themselves usually have very little graphics. Because I review for Adult DVD Empire, I have enough collected porno around to make me look like a psycho deviant.

Now that I have kids in the house, I have to keep the "bad" stuff out of their reach, so the spindles are hidden in the closet, while the boxcovers are hidden away in the garage. Some adult discs have great packaging and designs, so it's a shame that I can't display it anywhere. But hey, proudly displaying a porno DVD collection is even geekier and maladjusted than proudly displaying a mainstream DVD collection.

Nahh, I disagree.

Jesse Jane or Carmen Luvana were way too far from Capt. Johnny Depp
