Santa Claus! Oh man, here is the slice of gold of the set. Been waiting so long for this, I was about to get the non-MST version just for kicks. Not anymore.

Re: MST3K Volume XVI Details

Santa Claus, at long last! I will finally have both MST3K Christmas episodes. And Warrior of the Lost World and Night of the Blood Beast are both fine selections, though the set is weighed down by yet another dreary season one release. Still, a definite buy for me.

I don't mind the season 1 episodes. I just wish they'd space them out more, like say every other release maybe.

Hey, there are only eight S1 episodes left. Enjoy them while you can!

Good set. Particularly Santa Claus and Warrior are nice to see and Turkey Day bumpers too!

I would definitely pick this up for Santa Claus alone. I have not seen the other three, but they may be interesting.

Awesome! I was wondering when they were going to put out another LE w/ Tom Servo to accompany my Crow.

Santa Claus is an excellent episode. I love the children from around the world playing their individual countries themes.

99% of these boxsets are new to me. I came in during the last couple of SciFi years, and even then only watched sporadically.

Which is the Season 1 episode that has so many of you all aflutter?

Edit: I suppose I could look at the episode numbers listed

To be fair, The Corpses Vanishes is one of the stronger season 1 episode I've seen. This is a very solid set and I'm happy to have a Servo to go with my Crow.

Re: MST3K Volume XVI Details

According to Satellite News, "Night of the Blood Beast" was only shown twice on the air - both times with different host segments. Glad to see both are included.

The Corpse Vanishes is a one of the better Season 1 episodes, although Bela isn't skewered as mercifullessly as he would be in later episodes.

The turkey bumpers will be great to have - I pull them out on an old videotape every Thanksgiving and have a mini - marathon when I can.

I'm glad they're including a Tom Servo figurine to go along with the Crow figurine.

Re: MST3K Volume XVI Details

Slightly off topic, but is Volume 8 going OOP? I had it in my Deep Discount wish list and it went to discontinued in two days. I checked out a ton of places and they are all out.

Apparently Fry's is the only place that does have it in stock.

If you want it, now might be the time to get it.

Re: MST3K Volume XVI Details

Funny to mention that because last night I finally finished watching the last film in volume 8, "The Dead Talk Back". Talk about a waste of time.... this film itself, not the MST3k version. The film was shot in 1957, but wasn't discovered until 1993. I guess some people in 1957 were just too embarassed for making such a boring film, but came back to haunt them.

Anyway, wonder why number 8 went out of print... maybe Hobgoblins?

Re: MST3K Volume XVI Details

The Season One stuff isn't good, however, it's hard to find good bootlegs of those episodes, so SHOUT FACTORY is kinda sorta doing fans a favor. Still, until they release THE CRAWLING EYE, which was season one episode one, dogmatically going back to the Dr. Ernhardt well isn't making too many people happy.

The best part of this new set is NIGHT OF THE BLOOD BEAST, since it is very, very rare, and was the only episode to be produced with two different sets of host segments. Getting perfectly cleaned up DVD copies of these is an excellent idea.

Exactly. The other 3 episodes are flat out gems so this is a strong set. Can't wait.

Re: MST3K Volume XVI Details

Looks like Fry's is only doing in-store pickup now. So if you are looking to get volume 8, you are going to have to look pretty hard for it.

I really need to jump on the rest of those sets before they all go out of print.

I did that a few years ago when they pulled Volume 10.

Re: MST3K Volume XVI Details

I am going to give up on Volume 8 as it is likely I will never hear back about it.

I think it went OoP due to Hobgoblins getting an official DVD release.

Re: MST3K Volume XVI Details

It could just be that some of the earlier Rhino sets are finally drying up and selling out at this point. Technically, all of the earlier Rhino sets are basically OOP since they are no longer producing them. Some volumes are just easier to find, and some will sell out before others.

Re: MST3K Volume XVI Details

Isn't Shout releasing Hobgoblins on DVD? This could be part of why it is going OOP. I can't wait for this set, seeing as how The Corpse Vanishes was the first episode I saw. The Crow figure will be cool, but those lobby cards look great, I can't wait to try and frame some.
