I agree. Once you've seen a couple of well made 'making of' docs they just aren't that interesting anymore. Commentaries and deleted scenes I've never been into.

Deleted scenes and special features for me are so dependent on the DVD or Film.

also depends on the year it came out.

when i see a movie i grew up on, then it comes on dvd with deleted scenes or vintage featurettes, i'm always down for watching them.

seems as though on new movies, it's expected and not as fun

when it's obscure movies with an abundant of extras, i'm always down for checking it out, not so much on a blockbuster.

Last House on Dead End Street for being such an obscure title- has the coolest vintage extras on it.

Sometimes extras are interesting, but usually they're not essential. The best extras I can think of were what came with the Extended cuts of the Lord of the Rings films. A huge amount of thought and effort went into those. I actually watch them through every couple of years exclusive of the films themselves. Only rarely will the extras influence a purchase. I'm interested in the film itself, and I don't typically need to see how it was made or the actors heaping praise on each other.

I like a good Making Of... documentary on older films. Original theatrical trailers are always nice. But one of my favorite extras are the bio-docs on various actors. Offhand, I'm thinking of the Gene Tierney and Vincent Price bios included with "Laura" and the Humphrey Bogart bio included with "Casablanca." Sure beats when older DVDs came with the on-screen filmography list. For me, the all-time worst extra are trailers for other films (especially when the trailer for the actual film purchased is NOT included).

I'm ok with the lack of extras on older movies but with more recent movies I like to have extras.

I really don't care about extras anymore. I like deleted scenes and that's about it. I used to be all gung-ho about always getting the 2-disc version of things that i'd pass up the single disc versions all the time. Any more, if I see a good deal on the single disc version, I pick it up rather than pay more for an additional disc i'll most likely never put into my player.

I'm the opposite. The best extras are usually those with historical context, something you don't really get on newer films.

I remember one of the main draws to DVD for me was that there were movies I had grown up with coming out that had deleted scenes, some that hadn't been seen since they hit the cutting room floor.

Now because of most films coming with their deleted scenes pretty much immediately, the whole level of mystery of this footage is lost.

That being said, I'm more likely to buy a bare bones older movie than a new film. I just know that some films aren't going to get extras, and in many cases, there just aren't any extras to put on there. A modern film doesn't suffer from that.

I've always loooooved DVD extras especialy on favorite films. I'm very disappointed that The Unborn DVD has no interviews or commentaries.

I enjoy deleted scenes, but you can usually tell that they were deleted for a reason. And with sc-fi/fantasy stuff, they're often not even completed, which makes them less interesting (to me.) It's sometimes interesting to see the early CGI mock-ups, but it's no big deal.

The last extra I watched was the promo film from The Omega Man. It was an interview with the guy who wrote the book done by Charlton Heston where they talked about the character Heston played and the themes of the movie/book in general. Fascinating.

I'm teh same way for the most part. Unless I happen along a 1 disc version for dirt cheap, I always spring for the 2 disc version, and rarely watch all the extras. I usually at least peruse the extras for most movies, but dont watch them all. I usually just watch what peaks my interest. Usually deleted scens for the most part.

A lack of extras wont keep me from buying a film that I want to own.
