1408: 2 Disc Collector's Edition DVD Question
I have a question for all of you on here. I went to my local Bi-Lo and found 1408: 2 Disc Collector's Edition for $9.99, it was without it's slip cover. Would any of you buy it regardless whether it had it's slip cover or not. $9.99 is a good deal for a 2-Disc Special Edition. So I just would like some personal opinions on the matter. Thanks!!!

First, a suggestion: naming a thread "DVD Question" in a DVD discussion thread on a site named DVD TALK hardly gives a clue as to what the topic might be. Surely you can be a little more creative and informative in your thread titles.
I know some people are quite obsessive about things like slip covers. Nice to have them, but for me it's no big deal if it's missing when grabbing a bargain. I plan on spending some time watching the DVD, not staring at a slip cover.

If you think it's worth it, then it is. To paraphrase marty, you're not planning on watching the slipcover are you?

If it comes with the slipcover, then I like to have the slipcover. This is not a dealbreaker though, if it's a good deal then no slipcover is fine.

http://www.amazon.com/1408-Two-Disc-...6413925&sr=8-2
Amazon Marketplace has it for $2.18 new, I personally would go with that.

This has been overstock for at least 6 months. I first saw it discounted at FYE and then Half Price Books and now Ross. Once you pay shipping on amazon you are paying the same as Ross.

For a second I though this was for 1492: Conquest Of Paradise 2 Disc edition, and I was going to say when did this come out in the US?

I got this with the remaining points from the PepsiStuff promotion last year (there wasn't anything else of interest to me at the time) through Amazon, and it didn't come with a slipcover. Honestly I could careless either way, I usually end up trashing the slipcovers from the DVDs I buy that come with them. Like someone else said, I buy DVDs for the purpose of watching them not to stare at the case/slipcover.

I throw slipcovers in the trash unless there is something particularly special about them. But those cardboards covers with exactly the same art that's beneath? I don't understand why they even bother with them in the first place.

i don`t think the price is that spectacular. if i were in your shoes and really
wanted the slipcover, i would wait until i find it for a good rate with the
sleeve! i guess if something is cheap tha brain shuts off! i mean how many of you have even bought crap titles, just because they were ultra cheap and
you couldn`t resist the temptation
if you prefer the sleeve, wait for it, or purchase one from ebay, where you will
be sure to find a copy that still comes with the sleeve.
and for users with my favorite answer "i throw them away", have you realized that sometimes they are very limited. you are not cool by throwing them away. if you were smart, you would sell them at a later point, when they are out of print, as many times there is a great collectors`demand for them!

Does no slipcover somehow alter the experience watching the actual movie? If it doesn't, GO FOR IT!

bit weak argument. if he just wanted to watch the movie, he could just rent it! i think we are talking about a collector who wants the sleeve and is just tempted by the cheap price (although it has been cheaper).

Are these the same people who occasionally post, "I just had my 10,000 disc DVD collection appraised, and it's only worth $67.85 -- and 65.23 is for my OOP Criterion Armageddon. I don't understand! Why don't DVDs go up in value?"

well there might actually be some people, who are misguided by the belief that their collection is worth money, or might go up in value, when
of course the opposite is true.
is was talking about the collectors, who have a personal value attached to their collection and don`t care about the funds, as they would never sell
their collection anyhow.
