National Lampoon Christmas Vacation re-release 8-27-09
Warner Home Video has announced DVD ($39.92) and Blu-ray ($49.99) releases of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation for the 27th October. Extras will include commentary with Randy Quaid, Beverly D’Angelo, Johnny Galecki, Miriam Flynn, director Jerimiah Chechnik, and producer Matty Simmons, plus a replica of Clark Griswold’s holiday Santa hat, a set of holiday themed drink coasters with memorable quotes from the film, a box of faux snow, and an “I survived a Griswold Family Christmas” button. Exclusive to the Blu-Ray gift set is a collectible Moose figurine.

Sounds like a repackaging of the existing "SE", along with a bunch of little "toys" to go along with it.
At least there's a Blu release to go along with it, although I'd rather do without all the little extra stuff.

Wow, this trend of Warner having to include a box of crap with every release is getting really annoying. I guess I'll put this on the list along with The Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind and Casablanca as BDs that I won't be buying until they are released in standard packaging (with standard MSRPs).

^^^^ One of the worst HD transfers though. Shame really as this is such a timeless Christmas classic. If you have the DVD then just watch it upscaled and wait until they do a proper restoration of this.

This is one of my favorite Christmas movies that I watch every year (along with A Christmas Story). I will not be buying this as I already own the snapper case SE DVD, though that moose mug is tempting.

Hopefully it has a better transfer and if it does, I will buy it and throw everything away except for the Moose figurene and switch the green case and cover with the exising Christmas Vacation Blu-Ray and put the crappy transfer Blu-Ray in the green case and sell it to a pawn shop for $2 dollars

Why release this in August? I mean, I know all the stores will heavily stock this again in December, but it seems like such an odd time to release this movie.
Regardless, i'm in for the Blu-Ray if the transfer is better. I like that moouse eggnog cup, even if it's way to small to actually drink from it.

I already have this on regular DVD. I'm happy with it, no need for me to spend more money on this one. Good Classic Comedy Movie though, but I already have it.

This just sounds like a typical rehash of the already released DVD. I can't see them going to the lengths of a new transfer if they're just going to include the same crap on the actually BD/DVD itself.
I have to say the commentary for Christmas Vacation has go to be one of the most bizarre. A lot of stuff isn't even relevant to the film and some of it sounds like they're not even watching the movie.

The uber uber uber fan geek on the inside really wants the blu-ray collection... but 90% of this yearning is for the moose cup only...
But then again I don't even have this one on DVD (still use an old VHS my family bought when I was 4 to watch annually on Christmas eve - I am now 22... haha)

I heard that they mention deleted scenes in the commentary but never bothered to include them as a special feature. That and the crappy transfer has caused me to be hesitant to upgrade my SD version. I'll wait until they get it right.
