Now that would be pretty fucking cool if they did that...or even his next film Drawing Restraint 9...I digress though.

Would love to see The Game or any other Polanski film.

I think WB has forgotten about it too.

I wonder how they'd go about it. The enigmatic Malick probably wouldn't want to involve himself directly.

They'd probably go about it the same way they went about doing Days Of Heaven.

Since they've got a relationship with Fox going at the moment, and they've supposedly are working on licensing Badlands from WB (I'm not sure if that was quashed or not, though), it wouldn't be surprising...

I'd love to see Walkabout in Blu-Ray for 500. This was somewhat announced when they went Blu.

Walkabout already has a spine number (#10), it wouldn't get another one when they rerelease it.

Or how about The African Queen?

It's already been confirmed (more or less) that Paramount is releasing The African Queen as part of their Centennial Collection line (which is a double edged sword, since while we're finally getting a DVD release, all the Centennial releases have yet to be released on Blu).

I'm probably in the extreme minority on this one, but after the travesty that was the "Director's Son's Cut", Erik the Viking deserves a Criterion release of the original theatrical version, complete with a special audio track consisting of Terry Jones doing nothing but apologizing for the previous release, for the entire length of the film.

Nope.

497: Rome Open City
498: Paisan
499: Germany Year Zero
500: The entire box set

Kind of a backwards way of doing it (typically, they have the spine # of a box set before the spine #s of the individual titles), but whatever.

As far as the rest of the month goes, 496 is Che and 501 is Paris, Texas.

So a three film set uses up four spine numbers? :hscratch:

Edit to add: Nevermind, I think I get it. They are being released separately as well I guess.

A bit OT, but my favorite thing about spine numbers on Criterions is that 'The Grand Illusion' is #1.

I could not agree with that choice more.

If they REALLY wanted to get people's attention. It would be Heaven's Gate. Complete with the 4 hour cut, the 5 hour 25 minute cut which Cimino himself is in possesion of, Michael Cimino commentary and the 90 minute "Final Cut: The Making and Unmaking of Heaven's Gate" documentry, and an extensive Cimino interview chronicling HIS side of the story.

Nothing would top that in my mind.

Come on people, that Rossellini set looks terrific, and those films have been a long time coming! This is a solid #500, IMO.

Does anyone else in here besides me now associate this DVD with Anthony Bourdain? It looks like Anthony Bourdain on the dvd cover.

No they're not available separately. That is just they way Criterion does it. Always have. The box gets a number and each title in the box gets a number.
